Your Ghost (cover) šŸ‘»

I know Halloween is over but better late than neverā€¦
Four Five Larsens and a GoldRing Productions present
Your Ghost

The long story...

This one put us all out of our comfort zone (which is probably a good thing )

Shortly after our last friends & family collaboration, my brother Hans (the drummer!), suggested we do a ā€˜simple jam trackā€™ like a 12-bar blues, where everyone gets time to have some time in the limelight to ā€˜breatheā€™ and do their own thing. Simple repetitive chord progression; doesnā€™t matter how long the track is. Not my cup of tea!
I ignored him for a couple of weeks, until he went behind my back and mail-bombed the band directly.
Mutiny in the ranks! :open_mouth:
At least he had the decency to include a couple of links that illustrated what he was thinking of: Jimi Hendrix, and Peter Green with Snowy White. No pressure thenā€¦
(I did briefly look into this and even asked the forum a question about blues structure, which @socio interpreted as genuine interest. Sigh )
I then remembered this old 90ā€™s track, which I liked, mainly because of the atmospheric backing vocals by REMā€™s Michael Stipe. I did a simple cover a couple of years ago and remember being surprised by the fact that it was the same three chords, (Amin, G and D) being played nonstop for the whole song, with an extra D at the end of each of the verses.
Problem sorted?
You guys would not believe the problems this caused :open_mouth:
They all ignore my instructions/explanations and play by ear, which means the usual four bars to a line, but couldnā€™t adjust to a 3-bar cycle.
To cut a long story short, everyone was very patient, and despite misgivings about their own contributions, as well as the terrible song choice, came around in the end and we pulled a dead :rabbit2: out of the :tophat:.
I lifted the video sequences from The Vape an AI artist I follow on YouTube. (No permission sought or granted).
Any resemblance of characters to real persons is purely coincidental

Sounds great, Brian, great tones, arrangement.

That sounded great Brian and I digged your costume :sunglasses:

A very fine production, Brian! Despite the complications in the making, the outcome is really enjoyable.

A little mutiny keeps the band relationship alive, heh?

Loved the Sax solo a lot! But overall, every part was played so well. The vox fit the mood of the tune nicely. Also, great choice for the video (as always)!

Sounds great Brian! Until I read the long story and saw it was AI, I thought you were all dressed up in costumes and spreading rubble around your house. My first thought was that my wife would kill me if I were to spread what looked like a bunch of dry leaves and twigs all over in the house!

Oh :flushed: and Iā€™m following you on Sat :grimacing: :fearful: thatā€™s great.

I absolutely loved this Brian, brilliant. What a great sort of ethereal sound, I was riveted all the way through. Loved the video too :+1:.

Only question, all the way I had your vocal in both headphones (stereo) then at around 3ā€™45" ish there was a short lead vocal that seemed to be mostly right side? was that intentional or a ghostly influence :scream:

Hi Brian ,
That was great :sunglasses: :man_bowing:  :bouquet:

I know this song from the 2 meter sessions Live on 2 Meter Sessions, 2008 (something comleet different (same vibe though) but a nice one for people who can sing and only play the guitar :sunglasses:) and she only plays it with a guitar (in my mind there are 1 other versions now), but I was therefore extra curious about what you had made of this as a collaboration ā€¦ I am not disappointedā€¦on the contraryā€¦your way of singing is great in this styleā€¦
The saxophone was completely in place and 100% good and the slightly inferior vocals were followed by a great fantastic guitar solo( It could be that the neighbor heard it the 2nd time :grimacing:)

What a nice start of my day :sunglasses:

Greetings

I remember the orignal.
I remember your cover.
I remember you almost showing a passing interest in the 12-bar blues.
All of this I remember.
I did not know that behind the scenes all sorts of tumultuous goings-on were causing a stir in the collab-circle.
From chaos comes harmony.
Love it.

This is a great song choice!! Perfect for your voice!
and very well done and enjoyable as usual! Great choice of video for it too.
I also thought that might be you in costume before I started the video
very cool :sunglasses:
Sounds like the making of it was fun too :joy:

Thank you kindly, @DavidP,
Look forward to catching up with you on Saturday

Cheers, James,

Dug? Or is that a dig at me?
I guess Iā€™m the ugly dude standing around not playing anythingā€¦

Guten Morgen, @Lisa_S
I hope youā€™re not exposing the next generation to unsuitable visuals so early in life
Iā€™m afraid the whole band is closely ā€˜relatedā€™ already, ā€˜cept Chris of course, but heā€™s almost family now. In fact, my brother just pointed out to me that I forgot to include Cousin Lars (lead guitar) in the credits aboveā€¦ (will edit now)

@deiussum
Hi Dan, appreciate the listen and comments
If my wife was going to kill me, sheā€™d have done it long agoā€¦
Iā€™d never consciously make a mess of the place anyway- my wife earns the living and I look after the domestic duties(-ish!)

@CD02
Cheers mate
See you Saturday :sunglasses:

Morning Rogier
Ooh, you knew the song. Cool :sunglasses:
It is a fun one to play solo on guitar.
I was encouraged by the version she did with her band 50-Foot Wave, where they have a rockier, extended instrumental outro. (I guess I was also influenced by the sepia/spooky visuals )
As mentioned, the chord progression is Amin G D repeated, but because each line in the verses consists of four bars, every bar begins with a different chord-

  • Amin G D Amin
  • G D Amin G
  • D Amin G D
  • Amin G D (+ extra D)

The chorus and outro are six bars repeated: Amin G D Amin G D
This ā€˜anomalyā€™ was the cause of consternation :open_mouth:

I shall pass your compliments to the soloists and shut up next time

@Richard_close2u, what can I say?
Thank you
You and Dutchy have ā€˜pachyderm memoriesā€™ :elephant:

Aw, thanks Jasmine, thatā€™s very generous

More like the Nightmare before Halloween!

:joy: no no dont shut up  ,you only went a little bit off track in between, otherwise no complaintsā€¦Iā€™m typing this with your newly uploaded versionā€¦Oooooo thatā€™s really great Only when she goes to 3:40 and ā€œscreamsā€ my focus goes entirely to the instruments :grimacing:

I think your solos are great and would have improved her version :sunglasses:

I was just talking to you in another thread, I wanted to post it here first but thought I might never see it again in a week or two ā€¦

Greetings

Very nice Brian! :+1: :+1:

Your crew is very impressive as always. The mix/production was top notch and I really liked how the lead guitar and the sax really kind of ramp it up at the end. :guitar: :saxophone:

Looking forward to your next one!

That was super cool Brian. Really enjoyed the video as well as the performances.

It is fantastic Brian. Love the whole production. The solo at the end was beautiful!

Thanks @Jenndye429
I find it time-consuming enough to cobble together video clips that I steal from the internet. Recording your own and then editing proper videos like you guys do is next level stuff. Hats off to Dan! :tophat: :sunglasses:
Unlikely to be another this side of :christmas_tree:

Cheers @Eddie_09, always very supportive. Much appreciated

Thanks @Boris1565 ā€˜Surround yourself with talented peopleā€™ is my motto!

Hi Brian. More good stuff from the Wirral! Again Iā€™m impressed by your family and friendsā€™ achievements and made all the more impressive after reading the backstory to the production. I especially enjoyed your vocal in this one.
Where do you find those weird videos? As always, you never fail to entertain.

The talented people wouldnā€™t want to be involved if they didnā€™t think you had the talent to bring it all together and add your own talent into the mix.
Well done.

Absolutely SPOOKTACULAR!!
Somehow I knew you would come through with something after I posted Spooky, trying to gin up some Halloween spirit. This is spectacular and you and the crew have done an excellent piece of art with this one. My hat is off to you all. Your bar just keeps getting higher.
And I really enjoyed the backstory.

Good one, Brian. Oh yeah, the saxophone really did it for me, but the whole crew and production were great. I kept watching the video closely to see if I could spot you as one of the ghoulish characters. I know you can dress up on occasion, but alas, if you were there, I didnā€™t spot you.
