YouTube Auto play won't shut off

I regularly play along to YouTube videos. A couple of days ago the autoplay feature turned itself on, and I can’t turn it off. The little slider that used to be at the bottom of each video that turned the autoplay feature on and off isn’t there anymore, and I can’t find anything in my settings to fix it. It’s annoying as hell.

Has anybody else started having this problem or is it just me? And more importantly, has anybody figured how to turn it off? A Google search just finds posts that tell me about the slider that’s no longer there.

Are you using the mobile app?

No, desktop on my laptop, but I’ve checked the mobile app and it’s the same there for me.

My tablet still has it when you pause the videos in the upper right corner.

Yeah, I see that now on mobile. I never use the mobile when I play so I didn’t know to look for it there. Apparently it’s just on desktop.

I dont like auto start either. Its super irritating. I am not finding a solution, but I found an interesting but poor article about it.

Yeah it’s not auto-start I’m dealing with. It’s auto-play. At the end of each video, another video, chosen by YouTube, starts playing automatically. I used to be able to turn that on or off via a slider next to the volume slider, but now it’s always on and the slider has disappeared.

Personally I most often use one of the sites that let’s you loop / slow down youtube videos when I’m playing along. That resolves the issue and I avoid adverts too.

I’ve just check the app on my phone. If you go to the settings cog wheel and then scroll down to playback it has the option there to switch off auto play.

Auto Play On

Auto Play Off

It appears for some videos, but not all (not on most I tried, in fact)

I don’t have the problem on my phone. It’s only on the desktop version on my laptop. Even using a different browser.

I know about the slider. It’s not there anymore.

Apparently I’m not making clear what my problem is. And clearly I’m the only one having it, or else you’d know what I’m talking about.

Just checked my PC at work and about 1/2 the videos don’t have the slider but the ones I checked on my tablet yesterday all had it. So it’s not just you who’s lost his slider :squinting_face_with_tongue: seems 1/2 of the ones I check randomly have lost theirs.

Yep, same here - only for the videos I checked, it was more like 75% had no slider. And I fail to see any logic in it.

If I could find even one with the slider I could turn auto play off, but all the videos seem to have lost it for me. :man_shrugging:

Does the same work for desktop using the settings route?

@markr31 this one has one for me does it have one for you?

But it doesn’t on the in bedded link just on you tube.

Well, the problem went away today. The slider is back on all the videos, where it wasn’t there yesterday.

A couple of days ago I used the “send feedback” link at the bottom of the left hand pull-down menu to report the problem I was having. Maybe they just got to it today.

Thanks to all for trying to help.

I was starting to wonder if it might be a browser extension issue. use any that mess with youtube?
