AVOYP Community Christmas / Festive songs 2025

I didn’t reply to everyone’s take here - but let me say that I enjoyed every single one of the christmas songs in this thread!

When I was browsing through christmas songs I liked, this was my favourite in terms of singability and simplicity (and I like 3/4 and 6/8 rhythms and also others that you don’t hear all the time in most pop songs).

I just had time for one take today and don’t know if I can re-record it (hopefully) in the next few days, being more calm and with a closer mic/better room acoustics, so I’ll drop mine here and now:

And - here today, I was not feeling confident, family was in the adjacent rooms and I sang a bit on the quiet side and didn’t hit the notes right on a few places - sorry!

It’s the “Christmas Waltz” and on my personal folder of favoutite christmas songs it’s sung by Frank Sinatra.

And… this was my version, recorded more cleanly, but no video…

lol, yes, great. David Bennett has some great videos, I have watched quite a few of his theory videos, :+1:

@RonG absolutely solid Mate, great sound and what a great tune. Loved the vocal on this and the use of the Harmony, nice one mate. Merry Xmas.

Thank you Craig. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

I liked that one Dominique, especially the mp3. Didn’t sound that simple to sing and play to me and you captured the mood perfectly. Merry Xmas.

A beautiful song, both versions very well played and sung. It’s a pleasure to listen to your voice, especially in the mp3 version where you stay in the nice waltz rhythm and really capture the listener. But it’s also fun to watch you play :), thanks for your contribution with both versions. Merry Christmas to you and your family! :dizzy: :christmas_tree: :santa_claus:

You never fail Brian. Even your Christmas song is one no one has heard of…… in fact it hasn’t even been recorded by the songwriter.
Good stuff and well done on transposing it.
Merry Christmas when it comes my friend.

Lovely Silvia. Merry Christmas to you when it comes.

Well done on playing a Frank Sinatra song Dom. Not easy as he was the master of vocal phrasing but you did a good job.
I enjoyed your guitar play too, it suited the song. Well done and a merry Christmas to you when it comes.

Hello Community! Rod from North Carolina here and it’s been awhile but two events that were seemingly unrelated inspired this post. First, I’m still playing at a couple of local assisted living homes pretty much every week for the last 3 years. This time of year my sets are all Christmas music and I have been letting my robot drummer Dirk, (Beat Buddy drum machine Rehearsal warts and all with Beat Buddy) take a break and it’s been just me and the acoustic. Yesterday, after I finished the set in the memory care part of the facility (they are my favorite audience) I realized that I’m running out of time and a favorite song I love during this time of year I haven’t even played live. Last year I resolved to learn it and got the drum song from an online Beat Buddy forum but never worked it up. I realized I was about to forget it again for this year! I came home Wednesday and looked for the chord chart and lyrics on my files and couldn’t find it; I never bought the music!

Second, that same day I get an email with this post in it and all the wonderful performances on it and I thought I’ve got time to scrub this together and make a post. So I bought the music and started working on it with just the guitar and boy was it rough. I tried to figure out should I do finger style or what and then I listened to the original recording thought maybe palm muting on the verse and then strumming on the chorus would work. Then I downloaded the beat into my Beat Buddy yesterday started working on it and today I fired up all my video and audio stuff that I haven’t used in almost 2 years I think and did a bunch of takes and finally got to this video. Hope you enjoy it.

Deborah thank you for putting together this great idea and to all the performers thank you for your inspiring me to join you in the celebration of making music with our stringed friend during an exceptional time of year. If you are looking for a real treat this season do yourself a favor and listen to the original by Casting Crowns; it’s what’s playing in my head while I perform it even though its not what is coming out of my mouth!

Wishing this Community Peace on Earth and a Merry Christmas!..Rod

Loved the song - new to me - and your performance: nice variations of volume, both guitar and voice. Excellent! (Your have a voice similar to Willie Nelson.)
