Don't Worry, Be Happy

Lovely accurate playing. The vocal really suited your voice.
Who wouldn’t be happy with a beautiful axe like that?

Thanks,Dave. I appreciate your listen and comments. Yes, I’m quite happy with that PRS. It’s become my go-to for just about everything.

Bravo, Dave!
Wonderful guitar playing and great vocals
And your version of this funny song is very good!
I have just one tiny remark. I ran my eyes from top to bottom of the topic - no one seemed to have written about it. The fact is that even my old ears told me that there were too many high frequencies in the vocals. Maybe next time you’ll change the vocal channel settings?
Thank you so much for sharing these, my happiness level has already risen by at least 10 dB :+1:
Leo

Hi, Leo. Thanks for dropping in and taking this one for a spin. And thank you for the comments. They are appreciated.
A lot of folks here know my hearing is really shot (have to use hearing aids) and some of my high frequencies hearing is totally gone, I hear nothing or just distortion in those frequencies. Folks have commented on tin being too loud sometimes. That’s because that’s one of those frequencies that’s bad. Anyhow, if you get time could you send me a PM (so as not to unnecessarily bump this thread) and give me some specifics on what you are hearing? For your reference, there’s only one plug on the vocal track, CLA Voice, and the only thing in use on that plug is a pinch of reverb and a pinch of delay.
The only thing I can hear on the vocal track isolated is some of the ambient guitar because the mic is so powerful. ALso, what you hear on the main guitar and vocal is what you see in the video, no editing after the recording.
If you don’t have time, that’s ok. Again, thanks for the comments.

Dave,
I’m sorry, I didn’t know you used hearing aids.
I’m still without them, but I feel they will be needed soon, too  because I can’t hear the upper frequencies well (after 10,000 Hz there is a decrease in frequency response).
Moreover, it seemed strange to me that the sounds of “s” stand out very much in your vocals (for example, in the words song, some, just, etc.).
I don’t think I’m going to “discover America” now, I’ll just tell you about the method I use when mixing, given my hearing limitation in frequencies.
If it’s a cover, I listen to the original several times, then to my own version - and it immediately becomes clear where to work with the equalizer  And if there is no original, I just listen to some professionally recorded songs in this genre to get the right sound in my head, then listen to my mix and start editing it. Sometimes I send my mixes for pre-listening to my daughter (23 y. o.) and take into account her comments, because young people hear everything differently.
Dave, everything I’ve heard in your song is individual, others may (and should) have their own opinions. But if any of this post is useful to you, I will be glad :sunglasses:
Keep on rocking,
Leo

Hey Dave! Good to see you on here! The first thing I noticed was your ease and enjoyment of playing this fun classic. Then of your fingers sliding and flying over the strings and fretboard. Then you looked at the camera right at your listeners with that “ Don’t worry, be happy” countenance. Your lick was so smooth! I thoroughly enjoyed your performance. Really nice setup you have there.

And nice to hear from you, Pam. Thanks for the nice feedback. I had a great time doing this one. That solo came about from just improvising over the chords. I had about five versions of it, never played any the same twice. I focused on this one but it still came out a bit different than one I had practiced. Thanks for stopping by.

Brilliant Dave, made me happy and made me smile so job done. I have watched a few of your posts over the years and I got to say that I love your vocals!

@crocodile1 Hey, Leo, Thanks for that detailed response. Sorry for this late reply.
Those splosives have been noted by @DavidP and others in some of my posts. As I told you in my PM, it’s more about the playing for me and my mixing is really basic; not to the grid, play the tracks front to back, not a lot of plugs or editing. I consider it more a garage band sound. I very much appreciate you taking the time for that detailed response.
And while I don’t take the time on my mixes, I do appreciate very much those of you who do and produce the top drawer, studio type mixes.
BTW, weather is starting to cool here, in the 70s F and into the 50s at night.

@Eddie_09 Hi, Eddie. Sorry for this delayed response. Thanks so much for the kind feedback.
I’m glad this made you happy and left you with a smile. Glad you like the vocals, too. I still get the cringes when I hear it. :grimacing:

Sorry - a bit late to the party here. That was great Dave, I could feel the stress draining away as I listened to your arrangement!

One of my fav songs and you killed it! Nice song man! And again, very nice lead playing!!

Years ago while fishing for Giant Tuna in a massive fleet of others doing the same, some fisherman tied up the VHF radio channel (very taboo thing to do) and played up this song. It was just so cool to have dozens of boats filled with fisherman all enjoying this song (even though it was illegal). I loved the song before that day and loved it even more after that day.

GREAT JOB Dave and thanks for the memory!

I not only cracked a smile, I chuckled at ‘litigate’
I feel better than I did a few minutes ago, so I’d say you hit the mark, Dave!

My family is having an extremely hard time. This summer has been filled with grief and tragedy. Its all that I can do to keep moving forward everyday and not just dive into the darkness. Today I had a great live lesson with Lieven and then I watched your video. Your smile and the ease at which you play, plus the relaxing sound of you singing really brought great joy to me. I really need that.

Thank you so much for the reminder.

Thanks Phil. Glad it drained some of that stress from you.

@wiredforsound Kevin, thanks so much for the feedback. Yeah, that litigate line and the stole your bed line cracked me up. Good stuff and glad you enjoyed it.

@ontime1969 Jason, first and foremost, I’m really sorry to hear that your family is going through tough times. I honestly can relate to your comments, and I will be praying for you all. We can deal with rough times, but one thing I’ve learned is that worry won’t make things better.
I’m thrilled that this song brought you some joy. You have made my day. Thank you!
