?Guilty? Pleasures!

One of my favorites from the 1990s was the fine young cannibals.

And my old friend from high school still pictures me with london beat songs.

Not sure if I could do a cover of these types of songs lol

I never heard of Boney M before - he is quite the entertainer on stage!!! HaHaHa!!!

Boney M. was a Disco phenomenon. The brain child of German producer Frank Farian, who was much more than a producer only indeed, and repeated a similar stunt later with Milli Vanilli.

The guy in the video is not singing. He is only lip syncing. The voice, you are hearing is Farian’s studio enhanced voice.

In their prime Boney M. were successful more or less all across Europe, but apparently never really got noticed in the US.

Boney M. - Wikipedia.

I have one of those CD’s and I know one of those songs is on it, I specifically bought that CD for one of those songs, Cna’t remember which. I really need to alphabetize my collection.

Well I am going to ruin it with most controversial guilty pleasure so far - I sometimes don’t mind some techno music! I still think that Tiësto did an amazing job remixing Addagio for strings:

And on another hand some pop tunes are fine too, especially the most masculine one!

Because of Terry Crews whenever I hear this song I sing it and have a big grin on my face

Techno isn’t my bag either… there was one that used to get a lot of airplay back in the 90s that had me rocking out… I would know it if I heard it but not sure I ever knew the name…

What about rap? Right Round by Flo Rider??? That one get my heart pumping!!!

Haha milli vanilli. I haven’t thought of them in years. Blame it on the rain cause it’s not my voice that’s singing Music :notes:. Ich habe nicht gewusst there was a similar story in Germany.

Rap music, I’d have to say Dr Dre , Tupac, and Snoop dog gets me going. Maybe Warren G “regulate” or Drake. Recently I saw a guy do a whole song on ukulele that I never expected. It was gangsters paradise by Coolio. It was the most amazing thing and I should have recorded it. If I see him again I’m going to ask for an encore .

So, tell me, anyone here love Wonderwall? I don’t have really any experience with it. Had to listen to it on the App to know what the heck the problem with it is. Seems a lot of people have a love/hate relationship with it. I hear there are memes even! I must run with the wrong crowd, I seem to be missing important social media stuff!

ETA: I’ve added it to my practice session as it has all these new chords I need to learn. First try will be any time now.

I used to like the song a lot when it came out. I bought the album and was so excited to listen to it - there were so many other good songs as well. Back then also my sister’s boyfriend and his brother played it live in our living room with acoustic guitar and percussion. So yes, I used to like it.

Meanwhile I have heard the song way too often to really appreciate it anymore :upside_down_face:

Funny that this post popped up Rebecca… I was just reading through your Learning Log for the 1st time & had reached the end where you’re mentioning Wonderwall!
Wonderwall - for many years while running into seemingly unsurmountable obstacles while trying (unsuccessfully) to learn guitar, Wonderwall kept coming up & though I never liked it much before, attempting to play it & having it trip me up put it solidly in my “hate it” column…
sort of felt that way about Wish You Were Here too, loved the song until I couldn’t play it. Then, it would come on the radio & poof! change of channel!
Now, with Justin’s help, I’m slowly learning WYWH, but Wonderwall is off the table for me… I have disliked that song for WAY TOO LONG!!!

PS All that being said, don’t take this post as a discouragement in any way, just my honest answer about the song.
PPS I did really enjoy your learning log too… I wish I had the discipline to document my progress (or lack of) as well as you do! Kudos to you for all the progress you’ve made since the end of January!!!

Interestingly NG changed the way he plays it as he said that Ryan Adams was the only person to actually get the song right. Though I prefer Ryan’s bluesy version rather than his album version. I think it’s the latter version that NG based his touching version on. This might make you appreciate the song again.

Ryan Adams? You mean the Americana sounding Ryan Adams? I used to be a big fan of his in the early 2000s. Didn’t know he did a cover… I will check it. Thank you :star_struck:

He actually does quite a few covers of Oasis songs as he was a support act for NG. I quite like his cover version of Taylor Swifts blank spaces too.

I have to check Ryan Adams songs again… :slightly_smiling_face: I listened to all three versions a now - and while NG’s version was really good. It was Ryan Adam’s live cover I had to go back to and listen to a second time :star_struck:

I like the unexpected phrasing of that part when he singing the chorus the beatboxing. Fascinating how the song is living and developing a life of its own, right there and then on that stage.

So, I will have to correct myself: I very much like Ryan Adams’s live cover version of Wonderwall. Thank you, James :slightly_smiling_face:

I grew up on Punk, Ska, Emo, and various Metal sub-genres… so it might sound strange when I say…

but I freaking love disco & funk music. Anything with jangly strat tones and a dance groove. It’s so much fun to walk around the house dancing and playing funk riffs.

A big ‘70s RIGHT ON!!! Tyler!

Won’t you take me 2 “Funkytown”?!?!?!

Disco & Funk are fun…

“Word Up”, gotta get that “Superfreak” to “Pick Up the Pieces”, get over the “Superstition”, “Get Down on It” & move into a “Brick House”!!!
After all, when you’re a “Shining Star”, you “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” of that “Jungle Boogie”!!!
I think that when you’re “Rock Steady” & Chaka Kahn “Tells You Something Good” (“She’s a Bad Mama Jama”), ya just wanna “Play that Funky Music” (the “Theme From Shaft” is good) & think - wow man, “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”!!!

Now, just wish I could remember some of my favorites from those long hair & sideburn days….
