Heartfelt

This is a ballad that I wrote earlier this year, but recently decided to work with some AI on the track:

Which parts are Ai and which parts are you?

It’s all AI, easy to tell  Perhaps not the lyrics, or parts of them. But the performances, tones, recording quality (preamps etc), mix and mastering is not realistic to achieve for people around here with our home studio setups.

Yes, my lyrics and prompts to guide the AI with multiple takes to achieve a somewhat desired result.

Ultimately we can take a fairly simple song, and in this case one that I wrote, can play and sing, and see if an outside source, producer or studio of musicians can do something with it. The outside source happens to be AI in this case.

Yeah, AI is a cool tool to use in our musical journey. It helps to start with a good song (this one is a simple 1-4-5 ballad) and have a fairly clear direction for it to prompt it along. AI can easily run amok if you let it. LOL

I’m sure there will be AI in guitar pedals before too long.

Yes, it’s the multiple times you have to steer AI in the direction you want that drives me nuts with it…but I can’t stop playing with it!

Yeah, it’s not all things to all people and does not replace learning to write, play, record, etc. It can give us acceptable results at times, but you are right, be ready to offer multiple prompts and direction.

Here’s my AI generated action figure. Just in time for Christmas:

Love the action figure, Clint.

I’d like to add some words to the original post to make it totally clear that the entire audio track is AI generated.

Generally sounded great, though didn’t like that little refrain right at the end.

My YT comment:
"What is this wizardry?!? Clint has gone Hi-end production with full pro-level band sound
Surely that dulcet voice does not belong to the crooner of those John Prine/Bobby D. ballads?!? Why is this not on the airwaves (not to mention the forum?). Class !" :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Amp-size pedals, and a smiling Clint?!?
It’ll never sell

This isn’t really an AVOYP, is it? For that matter, It doesn’t even really have anything to do with playing guitar, either.

I’m not at all a stickler for having posts put in their ā€œproperā€ categories, but this one should probably be moved to the AI section (imo).

Me playing --with AI. Trying to get what you want out of AI musically is analogous to talking to grass.

It’s coming, and the amount of twiddling would be endless.

Strumming into a Trio+ and getting a drum and bass loop that you can fiddle with isn’t too far removed from AI. You can prompt with a strum or you can prompt by text.

It’s been a new area of inspiration for me. It’s just another tool in our toolkit. It can help if you are stuck in a song either musically or lyrics (what it does with lyrics if you let it is crazy). I’m starting to use it as a practice tool, backing tracks and such. Plenty of green field with it.

Hey Community

After some team discussions, we want to share our thoughts on using AI in the JustinGuitar Community.

We understand that AI can be a great tool for inspiration and helping with your guitar learning. So, we welcome AI as a supportive part of your creative journey.

But the real magic comes from your fingers and your ideas! Our Community is here to celebrate your progress, creativity, and persistence—not fully AI-generated content.

Here are our simple AI guidelines for our Community:

AI Community Guidelines

1. We ask that you be upfront about AI use!

ā—¦ Honesty keeps the Community informed and prevents misleading others! If AI plays a big part in what you’re sharing, we simply ask that you put a disclaimer in your text! It can be as simple as AI was used to help make this post.

2. Keep it as human as possible!

ā—¦ This community is about your journey, your sound, and your growth. Purely AI-generated work doesn’t fit here because it sidesteps the hard-earned progress we’re all making!

3. Keep it respectful!

ā—¦ AI is a hot topic, and people will have different opinions. That’s fine! Just keep the discussion respectful. If things get heated or uncomfortable, reach out to a moderator.

4. Please, no AI-bashing!

ā—¦ Not everyone knows our AI policy yet! If you see a post that goes against it, don’t attack the poster, just let a moderator know. We’ll handle it. Let’s keep things positive!

Moderators will use these guidelines when reviewing posts and may edit or remove content that doesn’t align with our community’s goals. If you don’t like a post because AI was involved, you can just scroll past it! No need to call it out or bring negativity into the mix.

Let’s keep this community focused on making music, learning, and supporting each other. Play on & stay kind.

Cheers,

  1. Clint was completely upfront about the AI use
  2. He kept those aspects he chose to work on completely ā€˜human’ (writing the lyrics, defining the chord progression and juggling the AI prompts to get him a result he was happy enough with)
  3. Everything so far has been respectful- (well, apart from me suggesting Mr. Tisher lacks in the grinning department…:rofl:). The suggestion that this post belongs in the AI category rather than AVOYP has some merit, in as much as there is no audio/visual aspect of Clint singing or playing on this song. In my opinion, it works much better as a showcase of what you can achieve by using AI as a tool, which can be creative and exciting at the same time.
  4. I haven’t seen any ā€˜bashing’ taking place in this thread yet, although it will surprise no one that many of us have very strong feelings on the subject.

Absolutely agree!
I would add any use of Moises, downloading backing tracks, and beats etc for use in songs as well. I do think if you sing and play guitar over them in a recording, they still belong in AVOYP, as that’s what it says on the tin

I’m fine moving this thread to another location. I really just posted it here by request (as I said previously). Sorry for causing extra work for admins or making anyone uncomfortable.

That said, I think the idea from @jjw has merit, use AI to place a note/scale value or interval on each square on the chess board and then replay classic chess matches. What sort of music/melody would come from that?

@oldhead49 thanks for the link. I had no idea that was posted, and makes good sense.

If I post any AI work here going forward I will most likely do the following:

  1. Post the original song along with the studio AI version
  2. Add at least one guitar track that I played/recorded. If a player uses a backing track or strum generated rhythm section from a Trio+, it is acceptable as long as at least one guitar track is added to the mix. We are talking about degrees here, so we only need one degree of our playing.
  3. Even if I add the one degree of guitar I will need to add that some parts were generated by AI.

In closing, it’s good to see that the forum is not inclined to disregard AI completely as a useful tool. Music has never been a binary concept (is it a good song or a bad song?), and is always subjective. The politics and likeability of the artist seem to factor in as well. Add AI to that list.
