Hi, I’m Brian from Australia

Hi and I’ve come here from using Justin’s app, rather poorly but I’m hanging in there.
I think this might be my third attempt at learning the guitar and this so far has been my best effort. 3 months in and I’m still struggling with the beginner chords but I do have hope as some days it’s beginning to feel like I am ‘getting it’.
I have 2 sons who play the guitar and my dream is to play along with them one day.
Really enjoying the process and at 58 I’m testing the theory ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!’ ….I don’t believe it
All the best to you all

Hi Brian. Welcome to the forum. A few Aussies lurking around here, I’m from Northern NSW. I started playing 13 years ago when I was 53, so yeah, teaching old dogs new tricks seems to be Justin’s specialty. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Brian, I am a long way from you, but welcome to a great community, it makes us a lot closer, cheers HEC

Thanks Tony. What a great achievement mate, 13 years playing. I’m really looking forward to playing with that ease I see people who’ve played for a while have. At the moment I’m nothing like that

Thanks Prof

Thanks Delta appreciate your welcome and it’s good to be here.

Hang in there, in a few years you’ll look back with amazement at how far you’ve progressed. In your case you have the extra motivation of playing with your sons. For me, it was all about songs, once I learned my first (and simple) one all the way through, I was off. The reward really is worth the effort.

Welcome to the community Brian! I started at 60 and, while my progress can be debated, I’m still totally enjoying the journey.

Hi Brian!

I’ve owned guitars for many, many years now. I started TRULY learning about 3-4 years ago when I discovered Justin. He’s the first teacher I’ve ever known who really made sense to me & I’ve come so far in that short time!
You can do this!!!
I recommend that you buy yourself a stand or wall hanger so that your guitar is easy to pick up & play when you only have a few minutes… I like to practice guitar while the coffee’s :hot_beverage: brewing in the mornings! That 5-10 minutes adds up!!! I also keep a couple of guitars in my office at work for when I’m taking a break!!!

I swap ‘em out every couple of weeks… keeps me inspired to have a guitar handy most of my waking life!!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Good luck & remember to always keep it FUN!!!

You certainly can :love_you_gesture::grin:

Hi Brian and welcome. Plenty of resources, help and encouragement here. Enjoy your journey :+1:

Hi Brian, and welcome from New Orleans. Hang in there. I’m 74, and have been progressing slowly but surely with Justin. I began several years ago at Grade 1 and got to Grade 3. I then screwed up and began skipping around, not continuing with the program. My improvement stalled and I began the program again. Improvement resumed. The key for me is regular practice, even if it’s only 10 minutes a day. Your goal is fantastic. The first time I played with other people was so rewarding. I can’t imagine how great it would be to play with my children. Keep going and you will get better.

Thanks Roger, all the best mate

Thanks Nola. I really enjoy the practice and I’m looking forward to having a ‘jam’ one day. All the best.
