I’ve been working on the feedback given here (and from my brutally honest girlfriend lol). Here is an updated video, this time on acoustic guitar! Please give me your feedback.
Original Post [3/10/2026]:
I just wrapped up Grade 3 and am consolidating right now. I am learning how to play and sing at the same time. Here is my first ever video cover!
The first verse was a little weak but I think it came together by the second verse and chorus. Please let me know what you think!
Bravo for your first video recording of you playing and singing Mukund.
It’s been a long time since you first posted an audio - with guest singer.
This is a good song to consolidate and become comfortable with the addition of singing. The chords and overall progression and rhythm are ones you should be comfortable with and it is a question of having the guitar part on auto-pilot as you concentrate on your singing, pitching and vocal phrasing.
Overall I think you can be satisfied with your performance here.
The main critique I would offer is that your fluctuate in tempo, especially in the first verse - which you acknowledge as being weaker. There is a bit too much speeding up and slowing down as you negotiate your way through the lyrics. To help with that try playing along with the original song, with a drum beat or with a metronome. And make sure to stay on the beat.
In the context of a solo performance, you have more freedom to vary the tempo a little so it isn’t a massive issue if that is all you plan on doing. If you intend playing with others you definitely want a more solid, consistent time feel.
Bravo!
Keep it up.
Richard
Having posted a couple of videos playing and signing, I know how difficult it is. I thought you did well really well. I like this song. I saw that you use a capo but you struggle a bit on some of the high notes. I wondered if moving the capo down 1 fret might make it easier for you to sing.
I appreciate the acknowledgement on the time gap between this and my last audio post.
Totally agree with you on the tempo fluctuations. Would you say that it was more locked-in from the second verse onwards or that it was still an issue?
If it was locked-in later, I can definitely be more intentional about making that happen sooner in the song. It’s definitely way easier with a metronome!
And if I may ask, do you have any feedback on the singing? It’s only recently that I feel like I can kinda sing in tune, haha. (Mostly thanks to my girlfriend giving me brutal feedback lol…)
If I may, I’d like to share my thoughts about signing. Don’t take it as criticism, it’s more like sharing the stuff I’m going through as well, and I can hear in your signing my issues.
My main problem is not being sure that I’m in tune, because of that I start to sing very softly and carefully, too shy… they also say that I’m singing into myself instead of outside. The reason - I’m afraid of my own voice and afraid to be out of tune. In the end it gives weak unstable voice… from a teacher I found out that singing softly is much harder then to yell…
So my advice is to try to give it a little bit more voice, by providing more breath into your singing.
But be careful to take any advice from strangers on the internet, especially from amateurs like myself.
Oooh, I can relate to that. My wife doesn’t sugar coat her feedback to my signing.
I 100% relate to the shyness, singing softly, etc. My girlfriend gives similar comments.
But I really struggle with staying in tune when I sing louder. Like, I can totally yell but then I get super pitchy and uncontrolled. I might simply need more practice with it, though.
By the way, I just watched your video in your post Hello from Rem. That was amazing! You’re definitely better than amateur. Could I ask how you got such a clean recording of your acoustic guitar while singing? Are you using two mics?
Yeah, the same happens with me. My trick is the following: I get pitch tracker on my phone, and start singing the note, say A. Then I try to add more power to it, notice that it goes up to A#. Analyze, try to correct. Repeat until I get bored and loose all faith in my abilities
Thanks. My wife would disagree No, in that recording I just used the one mic you see in the video (I increased gain and positioned it at the angle so it captures guitar more), in my learning log I’m experimenting with recording guitar via picker, but it gives me weird result, I need to experiment more with levels.
Thanks for the comment! I just tested moving the capo down 2 frets and it was definitely easier to sing. I guess I need to get more comfortable moving away from the original key if it suits my voice better
Thanks everyone! Glad it sounds more relaxed. I think that just comes from practicing the song 100+ times over the past couple weeks lol.
I’m still working on improving rhythmic accuracy with the lyrics. Most of the phrases in this song are supposed to be ‘off beat’ which has definitely been a struggle.
