Some of you might remember that Johnny Dowd housegig thread earlier this year…
(Haha, I did go on a bit about it! )
Well, here’s the musical ‘thank you’ card I made for the band.
I thought I might as well share it here too, as @sairfingers might recognise a bit in the mid-section
It’s a rough ‘n’ ready concept piece, so no gunslingers were hired for this one
Lyrics
Jim White said circle the wagons
Batten down the hatches
Hide the booze and flush your drugs
Oh, and don’t forget the matches
They rolled into town a day too soon
Those Ithaca indie-jocks
Heaven is singing with Park in pyjamas
Hell- washing Johnny’s socks.
Hot needles under Johnny’s nails
He’s squealin’ like a pig
The Captain hammers Iron Man as
Park kills Johnny B.
They sang of sex and LSD
Of murder, love and spies
Ate me out of house and home,
And drank my cellar dry
The tumbleweed rolled out of town
Leavin’ me feelin’ kinda blue
Was it all a nightmare
or just a dream come true?
a mobile from the merch stall
is all they left behind
The only ugly testament
of that great gig in the sty
Brian, you have outdone yourself. For as much joy as I get out of your music (most of which I’ve never heard of) and your banter, and as lighthearted as you seem to be, I have to wonder if you live in a very dark place at times. I’m here for you, my friend, if you’d like to talk. You can PM me, and there will be no charge.
Now on a very serious note, this is a stellar production in my humble opinion. I actually really like it; the instrumentation, your vocal is great and the video, all very well done. The same for Wormhole (cover-ish)!
AND you’ve taken another step into the wonderful world of music with bass. If I really inspired you to do that, I’ll gladly take that.
Cheers, James,
Johnny commented, ‘Love it!’ and shared it on his fb page, sayin’ “Check this out!”.
Also left a comment on my YT page.
Mike sent heart emojis.
I’m a sad, attention-seeking, star-struck, celebrity-chaser!
Thank you for your comments, inspiration, friendship and concern, Dave
Gordon knows I can’t resist a bargain, so I’ve messaged you with a list of concerns…
Have a lovely holiday
Brian, what an excellent experience. I couldn’t believe you got them to play a gig in your house. I have since heard of more places where bands loo for places to stay while on tour. Not sure they play a gig though.
With getting a thank you like that you may become a regular stop on many tours.
Sorry Brian. You’ll have to give me another clue.
I thought your musical thank you card was terrific. The fact that Johnny and his gang loved it is testament to the quality of your writing and (concept piece or no) production skills.
Well done. I may just have to put a codicil in my will about our mutual friend Martin.
Hopefully @oldhead49 can get you back on track and into a lighter frame of mind. Just think ‘don’t worry be happy ‘.
Housegigs have been around for a long time. We’ve hosted a number of them (usually small local artists/bands). It can be slightly tricky balancing making it worthwhile for someone to perform and not shelling out loads of dosh (or charging your guests), but I think it’s a great way to celebrate some kind of milestone/event.
Keep your eyes & ears open and pounce when the moment is right
Aw c’mon, Gordon, even you know Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode!
… or maybe Johnny’s band do even worse cover versions than I do
Y’all stop worrying 'bout my mental well-being, now…
Cheers @DavidP & @Eddie_09,
Ah yes, memories indeed…
I suspect in years to come, my kids might prop this drooling head up to stare at a laptop, whilst they play all the trashy songs I’ve written, trying to jog my memory and make me smile
Looking forward to it already… Nurse!
What a moody tune with the right amount of darkness. Loved the footage! But the best is the memories you have created for yourself and Johnny and his mates! It’s also great they appreciated your epilogue, too. Must feel great.
Bloody hell mate, you’ve done it again - it does my head in how you manage to get these ideas!
That was nothing short of brilliance, listening to your spookiness and the lyrics it’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking anything or everyone would have got some, really entertaining, loved it!
Vielen Dank @Lisa_S
I’m enjoying all your comments before you run out of time ‘when the storm arrives’ Wishing you all the best
@pkboo3 Thanks Pam
We all live exciting lives!
I just happen to share more than some (and fall into the social media trap of trying to make it appear more exciting than it is )
