thanks a lot toby
what you two have said motivates me even more !!!
I went to the guitar lesson with the teacher this morning
It went very well , I was less nervous then the first time so I ve been able to play
Last time I was a nervous wreck and couldnt do anything , my hands were shaking
We worked on exercices with the fretting hand so now I have 3 more exercices to add to my routine
one is for increasing the fingers independency
one is for the flicks off
one is for the legato
He listened to me recording of Losing my religion by REM , I sent it in a e mail last week , so he decided to teach me how to have a smoother sound while playing
I sent him the e mail to show him how I sound when i play at home , when Im relaxed
I also sent him a link to my learning log here , he’ll be able to see my everyday practice
I asked him about the mini barre A , he said that it was great to work on it and that Im doing it correctly so now I just have to try to practice it in a song
3 exercices + the sus chords + the A mini barre , I have a lot to practice this week
When I was leaving he told me that it was great that I was so motivated to learn
Trained on finger stretches and crawling as a warm up and did the pinky exercise
Played on Yousician for 7 minutes
39 weeks streak

I improvised on the A minor pentatonic scale with a backing track for 10 minutes
Did the 3 exercices for legato , fingers independecy and flicks off
I was tired and was trying to learn new things so I did plenty of mistakes
One of the pick up on the streamliner is dead …
I phoned the store hotline to know what I have to do
I will bring it back to the store in Lyon so it can be repaired
Its good to know that I dont have to send it back by mail since im always afraid of it being damaged but the trip to lyon will make me sick thats for sure
Well I have to go buy some new shoes there anyway … I will kill two birds with one stone
I really have the worst of luck , both my new guitars had a dead pick up
Sometimes it could just be a bad contact on the toggle switch. Worth just flipping between pick ups quite quickly/aggressively. Some oxidation may have built up on the switch contact and can be dislodged by waggling the switch. Happened on one of my Washburn’s, worth a try, might save a trip.
Since I have to go to town anyway I will let the pros deal with the guitar issue
I almost never use the switch
Yesterday my guitar was too loud so I turned the volume knobs and realised that one of them was not changing anything
I hope its just a bad connection inside
Trained on finger stretches and crawling as a warm up and did the pinky exercise
Played on Yousician for 29 minutes
39 weeks streak
I play standing up with the backing track :
New challenge of the week : Its Ed Sheeran’s week
I played it anyway … 2 songs
Perfect level 4 basic melody
I see fire basic melody level 2
I played Zombie by the Cranberries level 4
I played The yellow rose of Texas / cow boy chords C F G Am / level 4
I play standing up and each songs are played once with the metronome , once with the backing track :

I also tried to 2 songs with sus chords
Who says by Selena Gomez
You ve got to hide your love away by the Beatles
I played only on the first beat to learn the song and the sus chords with the lowest tempo possible
Guitar teacher :
Worked on the A minor pentatonic scale
I improvised on the A minor pentatonic scale with a backing track for 10 minutes
Did the 3 exercices for legato , fingers independecy and flicks off
Ed Sheeran , Michael Buble and the Beatles are the worst possible choices for me
I really dont like them
and this week I work on Ed sheeran and the Beatles
( and I already had the Beatles 's week as a challenge )
Very casual fan, I guess. I quite like the songs I’ve heard and I bought an album… or maybe two? I liked them more when they came out than now, but I do enjoy them still. I tend to skip the ones that weren’t singles and the ones with rapping involved. Got the Beatles number one album and enjoy them too, but less so.
This happened to me also (on an Epiphone Dot). The switch needs to be toggled back and forth once in a while, otherwise, I get nothing from the bridge pickup. I would recommend trying this before taking it to somebody. At the least, if it makes a difference you can give that info to the tech. Or you can not get it fixed and just toggle back-and-forth as needed. (Like I do )
The Gretsch is back to the store , I tried several times to make it work but nothing happened so … back to the luthier
and I ordered my shoes , they ll be ready in about a month
its hand made shoes from a little store
proud to help the local crafters live from their work , especially when the creations are so good !
I dont feel well at all so … no guitar tonight and maybe tomorrow too
@ConstanceClaire I ve never been a Beatles fans , I more on the Rolling stones team
and Ed sheeran … its not that his music is bad … but its not good either
I m not into this style of music ( beyonce , bruno mars , beiber , taylor swift etc … )
I’m not a super fan of any of who you mentioned, although if they’re on the radio I don’t usually mind. What sort of music do you want to play ultimately? Is it similar to any of the music you enjoy listening to?
Only when he’s with Crosby Still and Nash
he’s a fantastic guitarist but Im not a fan of his voice
I hope that one day Ill be able to play Landslide by Fleetwood mac and of course some songs from Queen ( my guitar and the amp was a big hint ) but I have years of learning ahead of me
I dont mind playing songs from people I dont really like like Ed Sheeran but I see it as an exercice
I think that in the end we all want to play our favourites bands and songs but the path is long before being able to do it so in the meantime , playing songs from many other people is good for learning
Its not good to stay only in our comfort zone
I have to say that I don’t spend time learning songs that I don’t like, even if they include useful techniques or are hugely popular with other people. There’s more than enough songs I do like to keep me occupied for many years to come!
