Nice solid steady strumming, with that continuous arm movement, combined with solid clean chord changes. You are developing strong foundation Deborah, congrats on the first vid, always a daunting step forward, so well done.

Congrats on your first video :+1:

I think it’s probably one of those where your mistakes are much more obvious to you than they are to those of us watching because it seemed good to me.

Well done: you’re keeping good time and the strumming is consistent. Having read so many of your learning logs it’s nice to see you playing so well.

Congrats on the first video!

Looked and sounded great to me. I think I noticed only one moment where you were a smidge behind with a chord change, by like a fraction of a second lol. It’s really obvious in your recordings and in this video that you are practicing regularly and is paying off for sure, it all sounds great. I look up to your self-discipline, actually. You’re progressing so fast!

thanks a lot you all

oh yes for me this one was quite obvious

When I record I always start being over conscious of what I do … and thats where I start being all thumbs ans make mistakes
thats also something to work on I guess

I guess that my work helped me being disciplined
I am used to follow a schedule if I want to be efficient
Playing 2 hours a day is never boring since there are always dozens of exercices or songs to work on !!!
Even @mattswain is starting to play 3 hours a day and is enjoying it a lot
Doing the spider and the pinky exercices everyday helps a lot too

in fact guitar is a lot about patience and dedication

 I think maybe the difference for me is that as I’m getting better I’m enjoying playing more and so it’s easier to play for longer now. In the early days I couldn’t persuade myself to do hours of exercises each day to get better where I feel you’ve been more consistent with it. We’re all wired differently so there’s no one size fits all answer and the secret is working out the approach for each of us that will result in enjoyment and something we stick with

It was one of these evening where everything goes wrong and you make mistakes not knowing how or why

I ll just go watch The wheel on BBC 1 for a change  :sob:

You seem to do many things per day :slightly_smiling_face:How long is your daily practice session ?

Bravo Deborah, congrats on sharing that first video. Can’t say more about your playing than others have said. Will add that your guitar sounded wonderful as well.

Now you know how, in due course, when ready, you can record and share in AVOYP.

depends … around 2 hours a day but not necesseraly in one go
sometimes I divide it into 2 or 3 sessions

thank so much David !
I love the tone that the Brian May Vox amp and the blues driver pedal give

thats another story
So far I ve only recorded practice songs

Deborah, playing along with the app or the original recording is fine. I don’t want to read to much into ‘practice songs’ but what you did was just fine, and perfectly OK to post on AVOYP. In fact some time back we had an enthusiastic learner who played an Open Mic playing along with the app. So don’t think less of that achievement.

I guess I have no excuses for not doing AVOYP now

Oh , I didnt know it was allowed in the open Mic nights

Its the first time I play something with all F barre chords

Tonight I went to the music school for the first workshop of the year
In my group we were 8 students and 2 teachers
I was the only one with an electric guitar
3 students were classical guitar players , one was a drummer , one was a bass player who started playing only 2 months ago , one was a beginner pianist and the youngest was a transverse flute player

we were asked to learn and play Karma police by Radiohead
the session lasted 1H30

Its hard to follow the tempo when you play in a band like that
as soon as one is lost all the group starts being lost too

I’ve been given easy tabs to play using only 3 strings
I also have the more difficult tab sheet if I want to learn it , there are some chords that I ve not learned yet

It was fun but a bit hard for me , I started having massive headaches

playing the notes was easy but I had a hard time following the rythm
i did not remember the rythmic in the song and so were the other students
it was more a : how are we supposed to play problem than a what are we supposed to plat problem

then one of the teacher said : " we need to be ready for the end of year concert " we all answered : WHAT CONCERT ?
it is not mandatory to participate but I think it would be a great experience
I m just not sure that my head will like it

there are very few practice session like that so I think that the concert will be a slaughter
the next band practice will be in january …

next workshop tomorrow : jazz discovery

Wow, that sounds amazing!

I tend to do most of my practice against the original recordings of songs so even though I’ve never played with other people I have some idea of what you mean. I often learn the pattern / riff in isolation and then try apply it to the song which often goes really badly at first! Because I use the Moises app I typically mute the vocals at first and gradually bring them up as I get more comfortable - obviously not an option if there’s a real singer!

As for being in a concert - best of luck, probably a great thing to do, but there’d be scorch marks in front of my seat as I’d have left the room so quickly!!!

one of the teacher was the singer and he was also giving the tempo at the beginning of the song but its so different from playing with a backing track …

as you said the first try is almost always a failure but I think that our problem was mainly that we were not able to remember what was the tempo in the original song

I m pretty sure that we all thought of doing the same when he talked about the concert
