Hi all,
I’m a 60+ year old teacher. Been playing acoustics since about age 10.
I have 2 Tanglewood guitars - (a 6 & a 12 string) a Uke that my wife gave me for Christmas a few years ago, and my old Mountain ‘Hummingbird’ (Japanese Gibson copy) that I bought back in 1976.
Still mainly play at school events, and the occasional BBQ when a few of us players get together.
Approaching retirement, so will have a lot more time to enjoy musical moments.
Greetings to all.
Regards,
Michael.
Hi Michael,
Welcome, and i am looking forward to a music video of you ,…because playing for so long ,wow…
I wish you a lot of fun
Greetings,Rogier
Thanks Rogier - Yes - I’ve been playing a long time, but never professionally - mainly family and friends. I started doing a video clip collection on Youtube a few years ago when I had this idea of recording a ‘love song’ for my wife on Valentine’s Day and posting it to her Facebook page on 14th February. So I have about half a dozen now. (It’s cheaper than flowers !!! ) So please pardon my voice after 30+ years in a classroom, it’s gone a bit !!
Hope you enjoy this simple song ( she did !! ) - about 4 chords - key of C - basic arpeggio finger picking. cover of an Ed Sheeran song. Perfect - Sheeran
Well Michael,…
Thanks for letting me hear…I think,…my wife sits behind me and says,.“when are you going to learn that” …and also says at the same time,…“Ooo his wife is still staying some time with him” …
A beautiful song and wonderfully played and sung, …If this song is placed in AVOYP, many people will be happy with this,…
Greetings,…
Thank you Rogier- I’m sure you do many things to please your wife too ! - There are some of the other 'Valentines Day songs on that Youtube channel if you’re interested … please feel free to view them … again - pardon the voice - (they are usually recorded at the end of a long school day !!)
We’ve been married nearly 42 years - 3 daughters and this year we have 2 grand daughters, so the family is still growing !!
Cheers from Australia.
Regards,
Michael.
… more than 25 years together here, she is 44 I 49 now ,so a whole life almost,…I drive calmly and happily through life, and she stands tough next to and above me…
Don’t,… you sing well …it’s way above average and if it wasn’t then still no need to say pardon …
Wow,you had a good year
Greetings,…
Michael, a warm welcome to the community! What a great idea to record songs for your wife! Playing more than 50 years - I’m a bit jealous, I’ve just finished my first year of learning. I enjoyed your singing and playing, looking forward to hearing more of you!
Welcome to the forum Michael
Hi Michael and welcome to the community. Hey but don’t think retirement will free up time, you’ll soon find you are busy than ever and wonder how the heck you ever fitted work into your life ! Boy you have a few years under your belt and not many here can claim that longevity of playing but some can ^^^^^^. Enjoy your retirement when it comes and I look for to you sharing both your music and experience.
Cheers
Toby
Welcome Michael. Retirement is great if you keep busy.
Hey Michael, welcome to the community, great to read your story. A good number of other Aussies regularly found on the forums here. We are doing the big lap in our caravan since retiring in 2019 and I’m loving the extra time I have for the guitar in retirement. We are currently at Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsula heading for Adelaide later this week. Loved your rendition of perfect.
Hi Michael,
Milos from Noosa here. I thought that when I retired I would struggle to find things to do to fill in the gaps that work had previously occupied. Well, playing guitar certainly has filled in those gaps - Welcome to the Justin Community and keep on strumming
Enjoy the drive Tony - the west coast has some great spots to explore - if you haven’t bee to Pt Lincoln yet - have a look around the coast there.
We’ve been lucky to see a lot of this country over the years - but not the ‘big lap’ circuit - YET !!!
Save travels !
MM
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to the group and compliments on my musical efforts - I’ve followed Justin for years on his YouTube channel and rate him as one of the best in his field when it come to teaching and supporting us as players. Looking forward to many interactions with you all.
Regards,
Michael
Thanks Michael. We were in Port LIncoln 2 days ago, beautiful town, reminded me of my wife’s home town of Napier in New Zealand a bit.
Yes - P.L is a great town - at some stage if you’re bored (and can’t find your guitar ) here’s a link to my ‘Aust’ travel site - mainly images - click on the dots on the map - I’ve been a bit slack so there’s a 2019 trip to the Flinders Ranges (pub where we played during the flood) and this year to Tasmania and then up to Cairns and the Daintree via Winton and Undarra QLD again. Will get around to updating it in a while.
Enjoy.
MM
Thanks Helen0609…hows your first year been going…what are you playing ? … any particular styles, genres…?
Hi Michael, my first year was great. I’ currently on Grade 2 Module 12, messing around with power chords. I started to play in December 21 and I’ve been hooked since then. Progress could be faster but I take my time to fix the basics. Slowed a bit down due to some wrist issues, but looking forward to the blues module. Unfortunatelly I’m not a good singer, so maybe I have to go into a direction, where singing is not essential.
Hello Michael and welcome to the Community, it sounds fantastic that you’ve already been playing for your students and that now you can find more time for your music passion! I’m a kindergarten teacher and now it’s the second year I play with the kids. I just bought a Uke and I’m enjoying so much the music time I can share with them! See you around
