My heart will go on - Chord Melody

Hello girls and guys! I’m keeping on trying to learn to arrange chord melodies :grin: it’s something I just love doing :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Why don’t I learn better arrangements from Tabs?

In another thread Lieven explains exactly what I wouldn’t be able to explain

Meaning, being fully engaged in what I’m doing…brain heart and belly…

…and make things as much easier as I need and cheat: can’t reach up to the Bass G on the thickest string with index?..well I have an open G string, let’s see how it sounds…more than decent! And I can apply fingerpicking patterns which are repeated through the song and make it easier to just let it go.

Also it’s easier to be there, to play more instictively because I feel a deeper awareness of where my notes are both within the bar and on the guitar and if I do a mistake I can keep the song going - more or less :joy:

Thanks in advance to all who will give it a listen. Thanks to Lieven who has further clarified this concept for me. And thanks to Justin who helps me through to understand how this wonderful game of Music works.

Very nice performance. There’s no cheat, as long as YOU actually play the note, no matter where and how on your guitar. Congrats, Silvia, I really like it, thanks for sharing :slight_smile:

Another fabulous performance Silvia! Arranging your own chord melodies is about as far from cheating as it’s possible to get :rofl:

Oh … A cooling, icebergy chord melody :ice: :ice: :ice: A themesong, right on time to start bringing the long heatwave in Southern Finland to an end… :melting_face:

Seriously though: What you call “cheating”, I call fine musical ears, creativity and wonderful musical feeling, intuition and competency.

I don’t enjoy the CD version of this song, but I really like how you arranged the piece :musical_notes:

Great job!

Indeed, there no place for the word “cheating” he, it is called, “taking advantage of opportunities” :wink:

great job on combining melody with rhytmic flow!

It sounds beautiful Silvia. Finding different ways of playing is creative and satisfying, I always enjoyed this even if it is a simplification to make it possible to play. Having said this, your arrangement doesn’t look simple at all, a proper skill is required for this. Well done! :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh no I am late for the party, but I agree that is a nice song. I would not thinknof it as cheating. I think its more that you are becoming a smarter musician. Right? You are adapting your playing style to the music.

Beautiful Silvia. I think you joined the forum around the same time as me so I have pretty much seen most of your posts and I have to say you have grown so much as a musician in these past few years. The sky is the limit for you !

Cheating: @coda @JokuMuu @mathsjunky @Prof_Thunder @Ontime once more Lieven comes to the aid with a good definition:

:joy::sweat_smile::wink:

…but really…no fine ears or being smart musician are required to say if a note sounds good or not in a given context Nicole and Jason. I agree with what Boris says

I like to do my arrangements because I can start from myself, it’s just me and the original song. I believe learning is experience-based […] when you start from
yourself you can put at work some problem-solving to respond to your individual needs, work on your weakenesses and struggles but also make your strenghts shine out bright!

Oh, I’m so very happy to read this! Thank you so much :heart:

…only a few :joy::wink: Thanks Domi!

@roger_holland Rogier I’m glad you liked the read as well, I thought it worth to share, I don’t know if it’s clear that this is not in anyway harder than learning from a tab, (after one has learned already something from a tab or music sheet, of course, and has a general idea of what he/she is doing).

It is more fun and entertaining to me to just ‘lose my time’ to decide if a note sounds good or if I can work out a smarter grip to make the playing smoothier.

I wish you a fantastic weekend as well, mine has started already yesterday with a nice trip to some woods about 45mins drive from here, which we hadn’t explored yet and an amazing pizza afterwards, yummi…no, super yummy! Today is rainy and it’s just lazying in the house insofar :relieved_face:
