NAD - NuX Mighty Plug Pro (MP-3)

For iOS the latest App Store version of the Mightier Amp app is now close to perfect. The latest version has also revealed 5 new amps on the MP3 that previously were only available on MG series devices.

Hello my friends, Unfortunately on iOS the new version of the Mighty Air App does not detect the Foot Controller (Chocolate) in Fonud Devices only show and detect Nux Mighty Air Midi. I followed all the steps of the video of Tutorial Jam, but I did not make it. App Version 3.4.2 and Firmware Version 2.3 in MightAmp App. Any suggestions or solutions?

Hi Osver, Iā€™m a little confused.
Did you mean ā€œfound devicesā€?
You said ā€œNux Mighty Air Midi. I followed all the steps of the video of Tutorial Jam, but I did not make it. App Version 3.4.2 and Firmware Version 2.3 in MightAmp App. Any suggestions or solutions?ā€

The iOS Mighty Amp app by Nux cannot currently connect to midi controllers.
You need to download the Mightier Amp by Dayan Lliev from the App Store (note different spelling). The latest version is 1.06. It will allow you to connect to your midi controller and has more functionality then the Nux app.
Cheers
Dave

Using iPhone /iPad to record video and Nux MP3 audio.

Using my mp3 and recording video with iPhone/ iPad initially resulted in no guitar audio being recorded as the camera defaulted to the devices internal microphone, recording room noise only.

Fortunately there is a (reasonably) easy way to get the guitar sound from the MP3 output to record with your video via a usb connection. (And no room noise).

Iā€™m using an iPad Air M1 and ios17. The iPad has a built in usb-c connector. Other devices/OSes may give different results.

  1. Get your Guitar and MP3 setup and working. You may need to open the Mightier Amp app and go to settings, usb audio settings, and increase the usb recording level to get a stronger output signal. (This can be useful too when recording into GarageBand, as the default MP3 output is relatively low).

  2. Disconnect any input lead plugged into your iOS Device

  3. Plug the usb lead into the MP3ā€™s usb connection.

4 . Now open your iPhone/iPad camera app. Set it to Video and choose front camera.

  1. Plug the other end of the MP3 USB lead into your device.

  2. Press record and start playing.

Things to be aware of:

Any interruption to the apps focus will revert the cameras audio connection back to internal microphone. That means if you view your recorded video, or switch to another app, say to check messages or mail, and then switch back to the Camera app it will no longer record the usb audio input.

You will need to close the camera app. Unplug the usb lead, restart the Camera app, set to video, choose front camera and then plug the usb back in. Press record and play.

If your ios device doesnā€™t have a USB-C input you can use the Apple camera adapter as an interface.

Connect MP3 to camera adapter USB-A input, and connect your charger to the camera adapter lightning input. Alighting port cannot supply enough power by itself Hence need for charger.

Set up device camera app as described above BEFORE plugging the camera adapter into your device. Press record and play.

@CATMAN62 Tod, the Mighty Plug Pro is the more expensive model I was referring to in the Noodling Around in G thread.

I picked one of these bad boys up for myself, along with a midi chocolate footpedal (from a seller on AliExpress, which was a better buying experience than a lot of US stores tbh).

I am impressed, have only played with it a little as there are lots of options to investigate, hopefully will keep me happy for a while.

Be sure to try out the Mightier Amp app version. Much better than the Nux app.

Just a quick update- mp3 firmware 3 now available. Added more amps and effects and a metronome.
The official nux amp is working well with firmware 3 and it new features but the mightier amp updated app is having some issues currently with the new amps selected and is causing some ear piercing noises so be careful till it gets fixed.
Dave

Edit:
MightierAmp app 1.0.16 is now available as fix for noise issue.

Hi Dave - I have just bought a MP3 and love it for practice and jamming, However, I have spent days trying to get it to work with GarageBand on my iPad Pro but have failed miserably. Could you explain how you have yours connected up and whether you had issues?

Hi Dave - me again. Iā€™ve also being trying to record the MP3 onto my iPad and again failed - Iā€™ve tried everything I can think of and saw a ray of light when I saw your post - however, I canā€™t get this to work either - does your method still work for you?

Have you updated the firmware and mighty amp app?
Are you connecting to your ipad with a usb cable? Does your ipad have a usb-c or lightning connector?

Download and use the mightier amp app. Itā€™s a better app and the USB audio settings are a little easier to understand.

Hi Jon, sorry to hear you are having issues. I havenā€™t recorded for quite a while and am now on iOS 18.2.1 instead of 17. I will test again as both MP3 and iPad firmwares have been updated several times. Iā€™ll report results here for youšŸ™‚

A few questions:
What iPad version do you have?
What iOS version are you running?
How do you connect (USB C or Lightning connector and camera attachment)?
Are you using the Mightier Amp app (preferred) or the NuX app?
Have you gone into the apps settings and increased the USB audio volume?

Iā€™m currently undergoing specialist treatment for a serious eye infection (on the mend I think) but it severely limits my vision and iPad screen time so I may take a few days to get back here. I am keen to make sure it still works as I have previously recorded some af my practice sessions and hope to show an improvement in future recordings.
Cheers
Dave

Check your usb cable. It might be faulty or it might be a charging only cable.

Thanks Dave - hope you get your eye infection sorted out and definitely no rush with this. I have a brand new iPad Pro running iOS 18.2.1 connected to the MP3 (with most recent firmware) with a usb-c to usb-c cable (does it need to be a particular type of cable?). Iā€™m using mightier amp on phone (iPhone 15 pro max on iOS 18.2.1). I start off with the MP3 connected to the phone - when I open the mightier app on the iPad I then have to disconnect the phone - GarageBand can see the MP3 Bluetooth connection and I can hear a very faint recorded sound on GB but canā€™t connect to any amps etc

Hi Jon
Tested with GarageBand this morning and working ok.
I have a wireless headset connected to mp3 (not Bluetooth), so no delay when listening as I play. Otherwise I feed into my amps auxiliary input to get ā€œsharedā€ sound.

So, for setup:
Connect mp3 to Mightier amp app.
In mightier amp app, go to settings/usb audio setting and crank usb audio up as far as it goes (+12db). Route mode leave normal. Loopback leave off.
GarageBand: Set up new trackā€¦
Choose Audio recorder (not Guitar), and select instrument.
Switch to track view. You should see guitar icon. Drag to right to see input level control. Currently it will be responding to iPads microphone (tap screen to check). You should see track level indicator jump. You can now record via iPads microphone but to record from MP3 go to top right corner and tap settings icon, then Advanced/Bluetooth MIDI devices. It may or may not show any.
Plug in the MP3 and tap Mighty Plug Pro when you see it appear it should now be connected to the track for recording. Turn up track volume, press recording and strum a few bars to test. Stop recording.
Unplug the USB lead from the iPad.
Set pointer to start of track, press play. You should now be hearing your recorded bars.
Adjust MP3 volume (side buttons) and track volume (GarageBand) to suit.
Iā€™ll check the camera recording soon and let you now what I find.
Oh, and donā€™t forget to unplug use to hear track playback as iPads I/O will not be working till you do.
Let me know how you go.
Dave

Camera recording is working but levels are lower. You need to crank up outputs on mp3 amp settings and turn on loopback.
Unplug usb from iPad to replay.
Frankly, in my opinion, better quality using iPads microphone when recording video.

Dave - many thanks for this. All working perfectly now (even on the iPhone but a bit fiddly changing between the MPP app and the GB app). Turned on the loop back and got my music app playing as well as the jam tracks within the mightier app and then jamming over the top. I followed your instructions word for word and realised that I was (stupidly, now that I think about it) starting every time by selecting an amp rather that an instrument. Thanks again for taking the time to check things out and respond.

Dave - thanks again for this - started again and followed your instructions and got it working - and as you said, you have to start recording and then plug in the MPP UsB. Havenā€™t checked the quality of sound (although it sounded grand to me on a quick listen) but I was so delighted to get it work g after hours of trying that any sound would have sounded good.:+1:
