Pics from where you live

Just looking at that picture made me nervous!

This is Spearfish canyon in South Dakota. I haven’t been there much since my dad passed away in 2019. This was a mile from where he lived.

I always thought it would be cool to make a music video from here.

A few weeks ago I shared pictures of our nearest beach, around 25 minutes away, that me and my daughter spent a few mornings beach combing. We eventually got to visit our favourite beach, Plage Du Guesclin, which is 50 minutes from Chez Me  I’d planned to post some pics but an unravelling last few days of their holiday overtook me, then I went into catch up mode.

Looking for something else I landed in Google Pics offering me a panoramic view of some photos I’d taken. Hit the accept button and was amazed at the resultant view below.

Beach is about 1km wide and by 11am in August is filling with peeps pretending to be sardines. At 0930 its pretty empty and that’s my kind of day. To the right you will see a rocky bluff leading up the higher headland and cliffs. Same at the western end to the left. I just cannot visit this place without scrambling as far as I can, as my daughter looks on aghast.

Beach is about 50 ft below, you can see that a late sexagenarian can’t take selfies and does not know where the lens is !

Mad dogs and Englishmen get out early, its too frickin crowded when there’s a midday sun.
Simples.

Wow! :astonished: So cool, Toby! :sunglasses::+1: Is that someone’s house on that “island”?! :desert_island:

Yep folks live there but I suspect not all year around. Many costal properties in this part of Brittany (yes over the border in Bandit Country as I call it) are 2nd homes. Lots of Parisians.
The “mont” gets cut off at high tide and access is only by foot or boat

This was the first visit pre-covid. We used to spend at least 3 or 4 days here for many years, when the family came over, snorkelling and belly boarding. Surf’s not up to long board levels. There are a few similar coves to the east and west and a great coastal path that runs all the way to the north west tip of France, then down the west coast to Spain. Many a good time in the past exploring that path. Heaven !

I should add when we first started visiting the beach, close to 10 years back, the house had a couple of dogs who would bark at anyone coming close to the property (naturally marked as private). I’d watch them with my heart in my mouth as they were inches to the edge of the surrounding wall and a shear drop below them. After a couple of years you knew they had it sussed and as usual the dogs had more sense of awareness than the humans. Happy days, :sunglasses:

Hi Toby,

That looks like a cool place to be. I’m right there with you-I despise the crowds when I go to the beaches here. I love the off season even though it’s cold at least it’s quiet except for a few surfers and beach combers here and there. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Cracking beach with its very own mini-Mont there, Toby :sunglasses:
I’m sure it’s gorgeously bleak in winter too. Love it.

Also loving the lollipop-fell-on-the-carpet-Barnet

Ah yes the great mystery of life. Why do I need a larger forehead as I get older ?
Could always do a comb over from back to front ?
