Robs Learning Log

Cheers Batwoman!

My photography is more through effort and perseverance than talent really! Not a lot of natural talent but I’ve worked what little there is hard haha will do the same with guitars…

I think that is generally true, Rob. Some folk do have some ‘natural’ ability for something but mostly those people with high levels of mastery have put in the hard yards over a long period of time. This excludes those rare savants.

Boils down to passion and effort!

So ‘finished’ G2 module 10 , learned Dreams, then got distracted by a JCM song here, great fun to play.

That and Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men, plus a few other bits made up learning and strumming then I shifted back to Blues Deluxe.

No further along but its more about getting the feel and sounds of the right bends etc at the moment, so first 3-4 chunks done okish , will work on the next bit which is a bit faster.

Right quick run though all this before getting back to module 2…

Enjoyed this video, thanks!

So hit up the first fingerpicking lesson on Grade 2, had a good go at REM / Everybody Hurts , not going too badly with a metronome, trying the more advanced picking but I keep messing it up…

Bailed on learning today semi migraine absolute garbage coordination, so ended up watching this instead, how these are put together and played???

Ain’t she sweet, you just gotta love those ‘enigmatic’ smiles! Been following her for years, boy has she grown up and honed her playing, be careful about following her stuff it’s very often in alternative tuning - this one is DADGAD not EADGBE; I have one of my guitars permanently tuned to DADGAD, saves messing around every time I want to play in that tuning. A good reason for another guitar :joy::joy::joy:

Ah I can cope with other turnings, probably setup a space guitar with dadgad or something one day.

Shes great her Comfortably Numb is amazing, and going back to like 2013 videos shes still very good!

There’s some gizmo that you can plug into that gives alternative tuning without altering your guitar but I can’t remember what it is, will have a look see and report back!

Is it the Digitech Drop you’re thinking of?

Nope, that’s a normal pitch shifter that changes them all, the one I’m thinking about is a synth type device that allows you to change individual strings. I think it was either Line 6, Roland (now Boss) or EHX who made it.
Edit: it wasn’t something that you could plug your guitar into, it was the guitar itself - I think there may have been plans to be able to use it on any guitar but I don’t think that it’s materialised. It’s the Line 6 Variax, I would love to get one!

Thanks for sharing this Rob. I’d never heard of her but have now subscribed to her YouTube channel. She’s brilliant! What a talent she has.

Thanks for sharing, Rob. I’m currently learning a beginner version of the song with the intention of moving onto more difficult versions of the song as my skills develop.

OK not a lot new, playing with fingerpicking a little…

Went back to Comfortably numb first solo ran through it with marty musics video and got it nailed so really pleased about that, my bends are getting there!

Hah, you’re name looked familiar to me, but there’s gotta be more than one Rob Dickinson out there right? I saw these pics (lovely stuff) and checked out your flickr, turns out we follow each other there (not that I’m on there much at all anymore).

Aha small world!

I’m not shooting or posting much right now either…

Oh there’s a quite famous Rob Dickinson, but he already knows how to play guitar lol

OK not a lot of updates for a bit,m still playing, been distracted a bit by some solos etc ut working on Nothing else matters as a fingerpicking exercise for module 11, coming along ok but not so fluid as I’d like, steadily improving though

Need to find some time to look into lag with reaper etc , I dont have much lag with bias fx2 but reaper is tricksy esp as I am playing through the pc (no amp)

Another update, still playing!

Working through module 13 (grade2) blues stuff, should really be going quicker but keep getting distracted…

Was relearning Dee ( Randy Rhoads ) and then took a hard left to learn Bohemian Rhapsody solo, those two have been utterly trashing my finger tips!

OMG … that’s just amazing :astonished:

After about two weeks of owning a guitar and “playing” it (not really sure if I should really already call “playing”) I can’t even imagine what it takes to play like this. However, I’m pretty sure I’ll never even remotely reach this skill level :see_no_evil:
