Closes I could find was a Freddie King Box Set

Whoa, heavy blues coming out of the Kiwil delta there, Rob.
It’s good to have a sound to put to the face and guitars
Look forward to your next share

So this… Gtx-100, sounds great and incredible versatile…

OK another quick update:

Still working through Beginner 3, at the end of module 16 now. Sorry I skipped Greensleeves.

Have installed Guitar Pro and downloaded some tabs, it seems a pretty good tool.

Also busy learning some Nick Johnston melodies (not the tricky widdly parts…), the Shine on solo (wicked bends as usual) and working my way though Zep 1.

I think my shortish term goal is to be able to play all of Zep 1 at least as much as possible…

Not interested in chord melody? I’m around this point in the course.

I like the style not sure I want to put the effort into learning greensleves but I might

OK fun weekend/week so far

Learned Hey, Hey, What Can I Do , and Over The Hills And Far Away

Not quite the Zep I was aiming at but the weekend ended up being an acoustic one so why not?

Sure sounds like you are having fun, Rob. Thanks for sharing it all with us.

OK whilst looking at reviews of new acoustics I found this, downloaded the tab and well its not as easy as it looks

I’m going to work through the justing blues fingerpicking challenge and do some more exercises

Its not just the fingerpicking thats hard, end of bar 4 he is playing:
5
1
2
x
0

Which is quite a stretch for my poor short little fingers… plus the F chord start of bar 3 he is using his thumb in a mini f chord bar thing which isnt easy either!

I’m impressed that you even contemplated it looking easy, Rob.

He is such a fabulous player.

If you want to develop and you’ve not looked at Justin’s Solo Blues then that’s a good place to start … looks like you may have based on reference to the blues fingerpicking challenge, but just in case

So I’ll put this here , why not, a short starter attempt at the I need your love so bad solo, I was literally just learning the licks when I got to the 4th? I broke the E string so had to stop there, the 1.5 stop bend is fun on an acoustic…

I dont know what strings are on the crafter, they are from the store when it was bought in 2001, so probably due a change! I threw on a '09 this morning just to carry on using it and I’ll order a new set for it. I also adjusted the truss rod a little so the action is much better now.

Any recommendations for blues/finger style orientated strings? I’m guessing around 11s or would 10s work?

OK getting some 11’s ELIXIR NANOWEB PHOSPHOR BRONZE’s

Just curious, Rob … what persuaded you to work on the solo on an acoustic rather than electric? For sure it is going to make that 1.5 tone bend a monster.

I am probably wrong but sounds to me like the first lick is missing its first note?

I am currently trying out Martin Retro Monel on my acoustic. Sounded a little bright at first but OK now … either I’ve got used to them or they played in well. And without being able to play side-by-side with the usual phosphor bronze I use hard to say if I should stick or return to the usual choice.

The electric stuff was in the office which was being used by my wife for a meeting so I couldnt use one !

I’m getting the elixir to compare to another guitar primarily i’ll try something else next

And yes I think it was probably missing the first note !

OK been working on playing this, I can manage a fair bit of basic fingerstyle but this has completely reset my meter.

Hard fingerings, using thumb for bass notes, single finger tips for multiple strings.

I know it looks easy and sounds bad but it’s been a real lesson so far!

Looks hard and sounds good, you are clearly learning a lot and making progress Rob.

Thanks!

It’s probably the first thing I’m attempting that I know I couldn’t have played decades ago when I used to play, quite a moment!
