Silvia's Learning Log

Keep my lower bout out of it! :joy:

Since I didn’t know I googled *Lower Bout * and Google says it’s a part of the body…of the guitar :rofl::rofl:

Gordon I’m quite concerned about damaging the guitar and that’s why I’m trying this strap on my old sweet Elise which already has her signs of the time and she doesn’t mind…I bought her in 2000 in Wadebridge - Cornwall

Willie bought Trigger in 1969 and has always used the strap in the picture and it appears to be the only spot on the guitar that isn’t damaged. So if your strap has a good quality hook it should be OK.
Better safe than sorry so trying it on your old guitar is still a good idea.

The freedom a strap gives you will be a big hit with your students. I see fun days in your future.

NOVEMBER UPDATE

I guess this will be the most messed up update of the year, as my life has been and new balances are now to be found…
nevertheless while I’m lazily writing this I have to acknowledge that despite the struggle to stay on track the month has been positive for my learning on many respects.; here’s a random quick brainstorming:

  • The Steady Thumb Blues (which I’m planning to record tomorrow) has absorbed a lot of my effort both on the guitar and the observing myself while learning with my mental laboriousness on musical imagination, aural memory, mussel memory, cognitive memory, visual memory…which of these do I tend to rely more on? How to find a good balance? And bla bla bla a lot more than this! Luckily I’m maybe able to turn it off and just play
  • Ear training, 1hour a week, it has been most fulfilling…which doesn’t mean that I now have a good ear, but that I’m now doing way better than I have ever been able to.
  • PMT 1 hour a week, I completed Grade 4.1 and did well on the final quiz. Justin’s team has been really kind to answer my questions and if the fretboard were like the endless and unexplored ocean I’ll now be a pirate with precious treasure maps in her pocket…safe adventures only  because I now know where to look for my treasures :notes::notes::notes:
Recording my Hallelujah project using triads needs to be postponed, it’s just impossible at the moment.
  • Rhythm Book 30min a week: I’m on chapter 7 which is about the sixteenth notes and I worked up to the 7.4 exercise up to 80bpm :muscle::muscle:
  • Strumming: I’m working on first finger strumming and I love it because it comes easy to me and sounds sweet. I’m applying this technique to a song for our school Christmas party: we’re starting tomorrow with the children so once more I’ll get out of home with my guitar on my shoulders in the morning almost everyday :grin::grin:
  • Classical Guitar…my comfort zone relaxed daily practice routine is now a sweet memory of the past…but I’m coping and, while I didn’t make it to be consistent, my sessions are always well focused, maybe even more focused than before. And I enjoyed some easy playing as well.
  • The visit to the Liuther shop…:cupid:

…sure there’s something I’m missing…ah! The new guitar strap! I tried it with the kids in the garden so that I thought, the wider space would reduce the risk to hurt them…and I found out that the risk is quite low anyway because the body of the guitar is well safe under my forearm and the neck is still higher than the tallest of them! I just need to build some confidence. A bit crazy time of the year this one with a lot of things to do, so I couldn’t make any more attepts for the moment.

Good luck recording the song, I took a break, I can play it now, my… mussels remember it … but I have not yet met my own requirement of 4 x error-free before I start a video…

I wish good luck with the last bit of this busy month of this year …and have fun :sunglasses:

Greetings :sunny:

That is too strict for me…I wouldn’t be able to record anything…but we’re different and I think it’s great it works for you. Me…I’m like Paganini :joy:

Thank you Rogier…it’s going to be fun

:joy: …I had to ask Wiki who he was …but nice read :flushed: :sunglasses:  (That piece of memory was gone)

The advantage of this thing (even if it works 4 times, it often works more often after a few days/weeks or months) is that I master the songs so well that I can also play them for others live with some …well …less palpitations… but after the first time 4 times well in order (Justin talked me into doing this) I still make plenty of (small) mistakes when the video button is pressed…

ci vediamo domani

and keep those guitars children intact

… but a great read. It’s always so inspiring to follow your write ups!
I was kind of surprised by your Blues ambitions, I listened to the ideo you recently posted, but somehow didn’t comment.
That was so great! I really loved that!
You are still making the best out of everything, Silvia. You are a great inspiration!

Wish you lots of fun with the kids! As I said before - they can be so grateful to have you as a teacher!

…and this is part of November’s update, only a few days late :woman_shrugging:
Recorded on Monday I feel quite happy with it…technique is surely something I have to work on, but more than that it’s still about being able to bring on the guitar what’s in my musical imagination…and somehow I feel musical imagination as much as linking my ear with the fretboard…they might still be the weakest points…aspects that make me feel not so confident as I would like to feel while I’m playing…happy nevertheless :innocent::crazy_face:

Hello Andrea!
I want to reassure you about this

…I have none! Really, I decided to learn Justin’s arrangements because when the lessons were realised I thought they seemed a good chance to learn something new but still doable for me. They’re proving to be a good challenge for me and I’m really learning so much!

Andrea I’m pretty sure you commented on my STBlues Primer!

Did I? However, I was full of respect and admiration for this one, just to say that (again?). You seemed so relaxed and fully into it. Great!
(My tablet refuses emojis from time to time, so I’m sending you a big, big smile!)

STB is sounding fabulous, Silvia, bravo!!

Wow Silvia, your learning log is so super organised! I am impressed and inspired!
I keep a practice diary (a physical paper diary) but my desk is kinda organised chaos, despite my good intentions every time I tidy and reorganise. :see_no_evil:

The Steady Thumb Blues was so well-played and you look so relaxed with it (and still smiling )

Sounding good Silvia and getting very smooth. Not played this in ages and not looked at the new modules as BLIM took control of the last few months. Must visit the new area in the New Year ! Good to see you definitely have the Blues !

Hello Jasmine!

That is very good, I also had one before starting the LL, now I have a physical paper monthly practice routine schedule which is changing I think over time and becoming more flexible……this is good food for thought for me for starting 2025 meeting both new life changes and developing skills…

I can assure you it’s the same for me, I have a Music drawer in our living room, my husband being one of those “super tidy-anything in its place” kind of person (…also driving me a bit mad from time to time :joy:)…so the drawer it’s closed and he can’t see my mess :innocent: At the same time I like to be organised and every 2 or 3 months I tidy it up

That is really challenging, trying to be relaxed to make it feel and sound good, but at the same time foccused to play the right notes or at least something that doesn’t sound too bad when I forget the notes or my fingers are not fast enough to catch them… all great fun and some frustration as well :see_no_evil_monkey::joy:
Thank you so much for listening and commenting, I much appreciate it :sparkling_heart:

Coffee and :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts: looking for triads and chords today! I made some A3 copies not to waste the original musicsheets.

Canzone d’Amore: something tells me we’re in the key of D!

I find triads are fun to explore, opening so many options and force-feeding your memory the position of all the notes on the fretboard.
