New Practice Schedules, I made them more
flexible to adapt to work and life
commitments - the items of practice are
general labels - specific techniques or bpm or
whatever will be added along the way. It’s not
a daily routine.
I thought to add “Noodling around” as an
item of practice to remind myself I always
practice too much and play too little
Hi Silvia. I had very similar approach of logging my practice time in the first year. Since then I updated it to something I find easier to maintain and I get more benefits in terms of stats. I am putting it here as you might find it useful. If you want to log in time by hand, you can just print the empty sheet begining of month and then write minutes each day. I posted this already in the dedicated topic under BLIM, so the examples are from Sep 24.
I’m more comfortable with just pen and paper to tell the truth but the stats are definetely the interisting part of it. The idea to switch the pc or tablet on for the purpose is not much appealing though…I’m a bit lazy with tech
Why Gordon? If I were your age and retired I wouldn’t mind schedules and just follow what seems useful and important, the feeling of learning and the magic within playing a note or a chord! Not sure how you approach daily practice but for sure it’s working very well for you!
Stats are the reason I moved to this.
You are right, this requires a computer, at least once a month to copy the recorded minutes from a paper template.
Haha. I wouldn’t know where to start with all that spreadsheet stuff!
You’re correct of course, a little bit of structure is required for most things in life. However with guitar I’m a bit “what’ll I do today”. Perhaps I’d be advancing more quickly if I was more organised.
Wait a minute though. You’ve just given me a New Year resolution.
Happy New Year to you Sylvia. I look forward to more classical pieces from you in 2025.
We are different and different things work for us.
I get that people might think this is too much.
For me this is interesting, but it also helps with the focus and motivation.
I also like to see how other people practice and keep track of their progress.
