Speed Control- by CounterPlot (jenndye429, nzmetal, ddye) Original song/video collab

Hi all,

Jeff @nzmetal , Dan @DDye and I are beyond excited to share our latest CounterPlot song/video creation with everyone today. In case you haven’t seen them before, here are the previous three:

Sirens
Time Bomb
The Queen

I think the three of us feel we are really starting to hit our stride. Every time we do one of these, we push ourselves to improve. We learn from what we’ve previously done and apply those learnings. I think this video in particular is special to us and I hope you can feel/see the joy in it when you watch.

If you are interested in learning a little more background about the song and video, click through the next sections. Otherwise, feel free to skip ahead to get to the good stuff. Full song lyrics are linked below as well.

We hope you all enjoy!
-Jennifer, Jeff and Dan

QUICK NOTE: Up until this point, we have hosted all the CounterPlot songs on the DyeV Music YouTube Channel. As of today, CounterPlot now has their own channel. Woo hoo!

ABOUT THE SONG

The three of us were were talking while we were still working on The Queen (we have a tendency to get ahead of ourselves ) about what was missing from our current group of songs in order for them to feel complete as an EP or as part of an album. We all agreed that what we needed was a banging intro song- something that just punches you in the face from the get go and doesn’t let up. So we got to work  Without getting too much into its themes or content, as I like to let the listener discover those, this song is the embodiment of speed in many different ways. This is our fastest song tempo wise and it’s also our shortest clocking in at just about four minutes. It also features some of my personal favorite lead work from Jeff :fire::metal:

ABOUT THE VIDEO

Since The Queen was such an ambitious undertaking, I think that the three of us were ready to strip it back a bit for this one. This video is a tribute to what we really love to do- make music together. We green screened this video, but we wanted to make it look more like you are watching our band perform live. Since we have used green screens in our last two videos, we’ve really honed in on how to make it work for us at a distance and the results speak for themselves  There is also a little bit more humor and playfulness present here than in our other three videos. Dan has professional theater training, so he got to let a little of that shine here :clapper:

Speed Control Lyrics

(Verse 1)

You’ve got something to sell
But I don’t want it
I hear what you say
But it don’t mean sh!t
Engine revs up
But you’re just spinning your wheels
I watch you circle the drain
Just cause you like how it feels

Eyes on the clock
Wonder when it’s my time
A sleepwalking youth
But I’ve hit my prime
Can’t up the momentum
Your ego’s in the way
I just ran your over your pride
Flying towards the payday

(Chorus)

My foot’s on the gas
And I’m accelerating
Tired of wondering
And I’m tired of the waiting
Either pick up the pace
Or just step to the side

Better learn to
keep up
Can you keep up
Keep trying
Before I leave you behind

You can’t handle it

(Verse 2)

Done standing in line
Waiting for my turn
Won’t dampen the flames
When there’s more left to burn
Hooked on the rush
I keep ingesting the fuel
Power my own engine
Don’t need to obey your rules

What about this
Don’t you understand
Elation and aggression
Go hand in hand
The needle moves right
Scared of what you might see
A live wire in motion
You never could control me

(Chorus)

My foot’s on the gas
And I’m accelerating
Tired of wondering
And I’m tired of the waiting
Either pick up the pace
Or just step to the side

Better learn to
keep up
Can you keep up
Keep trying
Before I leave you behind

You can’t handle it

(Bridge)

Got my foot on the gas
And I’m accelerating
Tired of wondering
And I’m tired of the waiting
A head turner
I could take you for a ride
Too reluctant
Just to take the step inside
Your tank’s full
But you’re just filled with greed
Think you’re in charge
But I control the speed

(Chorus)

Learn to keep up
Can you keep up
You keep trying
Before I leave you behind

You can’t handle it

That was awesome guys. So much work went into that and the end product is superb. Love the video, the lyrics, Jeff’s lead playing, and great vocals Jen. Your voice to me sounds like a Joan Jett or Pat Benatar, maybe a mix of both. Great work all! :sunglasses:

Jennifer

Excellent! I like the performance video and the song seems far tighter and delivered with genuine commitment (I was one of the few who didn’t really ‘get’ Time Bomb). This would go down well as the start and closing reprise to any set. Trying to think of comparisons with other performers until realising that who you sounded like was you - CounterPlot. Very well played.

Fabulous, what a cool song and production. If contracts are awarded simply for attitude then you guys are going to sign a bin one.

And of course can’t go wrong with songs about cars and speed. Maybe my favourite . . . . Highway Star.

Jennifer, Jeff and Dan …

boom

great and immensely enjoyed listening and also 100% watching with the video with humor I stayed glued to the screen …also because watching the fast palying licks :ok_hand:… and also quite nice that no macabre things passed by, which sometimes distracted a bit too much (or perhaps better said… for me it’s more about the music now …I mean it’s also quite relaxing to watch like this  :joy:) and so looking more to the wonderful musical qualities that you all perform :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Greetings :man_bowing: :metal:

Cool stuff again. I like the way you’re fitting in more storytelling in this.
Well done on the vid, Dan :sunglasses:

Thanks Alexey! That’s the reaction we hoped for  :metal:

Thanks Eddie! That’s a huge compliment since I love both of them and Joan Jett especially is a huge influence of mine. I’m actually wearing a Joan Jett shirt in part of the video, but my jacket is covering it, so you can’t really see  Thank you for watching!

Thank you so much Brian! To me this is a huge compliment! We are working hard to discover what our “sound” is and it’s awesome to know that we have one!

Thank you so much David! Now we just need some rich music producer to discover us

Thank you so much Rogier! I think we were all trying to make sure that we had good balance with the humorous parts and that it wasn’t too over the top. Glad you enjoyed it!

 :metal: :smiling_imp: I can’t guarantee that the creepy stuff won’t come back at some point  But it’s away for now at least…

Thanks Brian! It was our first attempt at something like this and we all absolutely LOVED how it turned out

Thank you so much Phil! Even though we love all our song “children” at least 2/3rds of the band cites this one as their favorite  We are all super proud of this one :metal:

Thank you so much Nicole! Jeff solos are so good! They actually get stuck in my head and I’ll be humming them throughout the day

Thank you so much Don for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks Jim!!

Another great performance guys. I love the energy you put into your songs and to be honest, I enjoyed the less theatrical video this time. The focus was on your music and there was some super musicianship from you all. Amazing how you put these things together from opposite sides of the world. The amount of work you put into it is impressive. Well done all of you.

Hi guys!

Really enjoyed this tune… it’s my favorite of your collaborations so far!
I also agree with Gordon on this point…

I think that a younger me liked the “production” music videos a lot more than the older me does! I enjoy watching the group playing “live” & feel that it often helps me to feel how the song is being played so much more! This was a good watch & very good work!
Keep up the awesome energy & creativity!!!

Good production and it reminds me that sometimes, less is more…

You folks are on a roll creation wise. That goes for both Audio and Video, plus writing your own way in music. But in listening to this, it make me think of a song by Heart. I think you folks might have the parts and tools to pull off a rendition of the song Barracuda.

I like the idea of an album, but in your spare time, consider possibly doing the cover…

Take care,
LB

What a great video, performance, just great entertainment, and you’re making it look far too damn easy too . @Jenndye429 I could use some of those power chord skills :+1: great work everyone :+1: :metal:

As soon as I left the plattform yesterday, magical things were happening here…
This is a booooombastic :boom: :boom: :boom: follow up to the previous songs!

As soon as we leave you alone, your creativity explodes :joy:, you shoot them out like a machine gun! Not easy to keep up with you guys!

I like the “red thread” that little by little gets longer and more visible to the listener. Lifting the veil from the big picture behind. Very cool! I like the storytelling aspect of the songs anyway, but you put them now into a bigger context/concept, that already was visible before but now gets continued. Very cool move, adds to the thrill. I’m so excited to see how the story develops and ends!!!

As others have already mentioned - I was touched very positivly to see and hear you as a full band, without being massively distracted by the power of visual effects, that let’s me concentrate more on the musical aspect. This will be a great opener, and it takes away some “slight discomfort” about the “psychotic” touch of the former videos, puts it in another light.

Great playing and singing on top! Jeff’s lead playing is impressing! We already know, that Jennifer is a what we call “Rampensau” (which means a performer with heart and soul), but the boys definitly can keep up!

On the technical side, as this is green screen: how did you get the shadows on the floor?? Is this a certain feature?

Keep on with the good work! Congrats!
