The Heart of the Matter, Don Henley 1989

Hi @ToshS ,
Thank you for the wonderful comments!!!
Great memories from this classic, indeed!!!
You are so appreciated, my friend!!!

Your take on this song was unique and interesting-very enjoyable. I posted this song here too last month. I really loved this song years ago. Have a listen if you want to compare to your version. You look like you are playing in a music toy store there-loving it

Hi @mikeGmell ,
You are so awesome, and than ks for the great question and wonderful comments!
I love your huge compliments as well!!!
Here’s my set-up:
2 mics; Shure SM-58 (guitar), and Ear Trumpet Labs “Edwina” (vocals)
INTO - Yamaha MG10FX Mixer (I am using room reverb #6)
INTO - UAD Volt 2/76 Audio Interface (love the built-in compressor and vintage mic preamp)
INTO - IMAC, I am using Quick Time Player recording a movie
Thanks for asking.

Rene

Thanks Rene, for the info on your setup - that’s very helpful. I’m going to try recording with something a little more basic:
Audio Technica AT2020 mic for vocals
Spark amp for guitar
Mic and Amp into a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 Audio Interface
Audio Interface into iMac
And record with Quicktime on the iMac

And maybe I can make adjustments and add effects with a DAW.

I’m not sure my setup makes sense but I’ll give it a go.

Thanks again for the info on your setup!

Hi Mike,
Have you completed your new recording setup?
Just wanted to see if you are able to get your recordings going.
Hope to hear a few recordings.
Keep on playing, and making great music!

Rene

I’d pay to see you. That’s better than most stuff that I pay to see. Couldn’t say enough good things about it. Thank you.

This is the second performance of yours I’ve watched and I’m just as impressed as I was by the first. One question. You’ve obviously been playing a long time and have your own style. Do you always strum without a pick? Do you ever use a pick? And do you do fingerstyle? I’d just be interested to know. This works anyway. Great song, great interpretation. Thank you.

Hi Rene,
Yes! It took some doing but I finally got my recording setup running and I’m happy with the sound. It’s very basic: Audio Technica mic and acoustic guitar running through an audio interface to my Mac desktop; I did the mixing with garage band on the mac and ran that into OBS. I’m amazed the control that garage band offers - I watched about 15 youtube videos to get a basic understanding. Anyway, it was worth it cuz I’m happy how it turned out - Fire & Rain by James Taylor
Now that I’ve got the recording setup working I’ll have a crack at another song soon.
Cheers,
Mike
