What are you currently listening to 2026?

I’m still a bit obsessed with Hohnen Ford. So so so good.

I’ve got tickets to see Ben de la Cour in Liverpool on Sunday.
He recorded this album with the great Jim White :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Also caught Mark Ryan in Chester last Tuesday. Here he is with Katie McGregor from Igloo Hearts with a tribute to Paul O’Grady/Lilly Savage from Birkenhead

Someone put me onto this band. Not the sort of music I listen to often but occasionally it’s good to spread your wings. Love the lyrics in this one (transcript below the video if you want it).

It took me a bit to get into Geese. The first time I listened to the new album it put me off, but I gave it another chance and it’s definitely grown on me.

I don’t speak a word of the language, don’t know anything about the song, but it might be the best thing I’ve heard all year.

Me neither, but I enjoyed listening to it. It’s fascinating how music and art in general transcends language as a communication method and connects people everywhere. More of that please.

Those that know me, know I get some good feeds from the daughter I corrupted in the cradle and the cycle is now repeated as her daughter, equally musically abused in the crib, both send me some really exciting new artists (mostly on the heavy side!!).

2nd Gen has been sharing Maphra this week and 3rd gen is also extoling the virtues of this extraordinary vocalist, who is battling Spotify who dropped her tracks, as some ā€œquestionsā€ were asked - she is fighting to get them reinstated. Hearing the first offering I was a little sceptical as it is so good and the AI suspicion surfaced but as my old vocal coach, Mr Liepe is convinced during his many analysis of her covers, I am happy she is genuine and just a wonderful listen. #noteveryonesjava !! #goosebumps

Parental Warning #oddnaughtyword in the following lyrics

Doomed Cover

Chris Liepe’s students will appreciate the ā€œfryā€

There’s more but that’s enough of a teaser.

@Jenndye429 up your alley per chance

Very few guitarists can pull off instrumental covers and make them sound interesting. This guy is amazing at it.

Another cover from Maphra, this time Pinkin Lark’s The Emptiness Machine.
Takes it to another level methinks

Social media is often toxic, I avoid it as much as possible, but every so often the algorithms hit the jackpot. I was not expecting this on my youtube feed today. For the non-Australians this is a legendary song written by Rob Hirst who died a couple of months ago. Performed here by another Australian music icon Paul Kelly and a young up and coming indigenous artist Jess Hitchcock. Rob would’ve loved this I’m sure.
