What are you currently playing? (Video games)

Ghost of Tsushima (PS4). Game set during the Mongol invasion to Japan period. You control a samurai, who survived a gruesome battle, but his uncle was taken hostage and now must gather allies and resources to save him. Kinda on a boring side, but since I paid good money for it, I’m determined to complete it, it’s just that a couple of missions is enough for the open-world fatigue to kick-in. Though, I’ve set the audio to Japanese plus English subtitles, so it kinda helps with authenticity, if you are a fan of Akira Kurosawa atleast…

I get that sometimes. I feel compelled to finish a game that I’ve bought, even if I’m not really enjoying it that much. When I’m done I think, why did I do that? All that time wasted that I could have been doing something else far more worthwhile, just to get my monies worth? And are we really getting our monies worth if the product isn’t actually doing what we bought it for… in this case, entertaining us?

Anyway, I can’t afford new games right now so I’ve been playing some older ones instead. Finally got around to ā€œfinishingā€ Metal Gear Solid V, which like the others in the series is nowhere near as good as Kojima fanboys claim. Finally got around to finishing all the main and side quests I could find in Skyrim, a first despite owning the game since it’s release more than a decade ago.

And tomorrow I will be trying The Witcher 3 again. They’re releasing a major overhaul for it so it seems like a good time to see if it can interest me enough to finish it this time.

Yeah, I get it, if I would have paid like under twenty for it, I would have left it alone a while back and never bother with it (like with Diablo 3… never finished it), but I paid 60 for it, so, it’s a matter of principle now

Oh, yah, CDPR is doing that overhaul to next-gen thing with W3, might start it again in the future or at least from Blood and Wine expansion, since years ago I left Geralt in the forest with over-burdened back-pack and never continued on, because I did not find the motivation to slowly walk up to a horse surrounded by many enemies…

You Oceanians (is that a word?) are so impatient! I’m looking forward to it actually. It’s been years since I played and wasn’t really grabbed by it, but I have a feeling it’ll interest me more this time.

Nearly 50GB with the upgrade. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Ah, the days when whole games came on a single cassette tape. Funny thing is, some of the people reading this probably don’t even know what a cassette tape is!

Probably the most time I have spent playing a game in the last few years was Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014. The good part about that is it put my guitar in my hands and let me learn the fretboard and some songs. I am currently hooked on Wreckfest. I will also kill some time playing Pinball FX3. All on PS3 and PS4.

So I got Stray and God of War for Christmas.

I’ve already completed Stray. For anyone who likes exploring with light puzzle solving and no combat, Stray is going to be for you. It’s a really visually rich world, with a compelling yet simple storyline. Seriously though, the amount of detail in the backgrounds is great and the characters are fun to interact with. And it’s a pretty short game, so not a huge time commitment. Plus, who wouldn’t enjoy playing as a kitty cat!?

Now, question time. I have three titles that I havent played - God of War, Cyberpunk, and Witcher 3. I don’t know which one to start first. I’m thinking Cyberpunk since I just played Stray and enjoyed the futuristic post-world feel of that game. I enjoyed Skyrim a lot. And really liked the original God of War. But with any of the three, any recommendations for what I should play first? And any tips I should know as a first time player for any of them? No spoilers please, but I like tips on what to expect going in.

I can’t speak of the other games, but one consideration for The Witcher 3 is it’s length. If you go around chasing all quests and activities (not including the in-game card game Gwent) then it is a long, loooooooong game. With DLCs it’s even longer, and by some margin.

If you have other games in the wings then you may end up racing through and missing things, or breaking halfway through and forgetting half the story when you eventually return to it. By their genre the other games are probably long too (I haven’t played them), but I’d bet The Witcher 3 is the longest so perhaps play it last?

Well I do tend to be a completionist. Though having said that if quests are just too drawn out I will punt. Like Breath of the Wild’s 250 shrines and 999 korok seeds. I did all the shrines, but the seeds I was like yeah righto. Ok I’ll keep that in mind with W3. Maybe I should play them in order of length. I may look that up and see what ave play times are.

Witcher 3 just got a refresh, looks great, 100+ hours of the best rpg ever made

God of war - beautifully crafted, 30 hours? Quite linear, great story good action decent characters

Cp2077 - looks great still has some very odd things, it’s OK but didn’t grab me much, need to go back give it another try tbh

Hah, I almost never bother with things like that. Running around collecting arbitrary items or whatever isn’t gameplay to me, it’s tedious filler. But that’s not what The Witcher 3 has. Each quest has characters and at least some semblance of story to it, even the short ones, so it all feels worth doing. I’m about 60-70 hours in and nowhere near the end yet.

Very much a matter of opinion. I’m a big RPG fan and while The Witcher 3 is good, I have played better.

Interested in which you think are better and why!

Probably between the witcher and god of war

But if you play cyberpunk you should watch the anime series i heard its really good, thats what made alot of people get into cyberpunk again

I played (and finished) God of War and Witcher, bought Cyberpunk on release but stopped playing it shortly after the intro when I read about all the bugs. Actually just started playing it again yesterday.

Cyberpunk is very R18. Lots of nudity and gore so far, so be aware of that and who is around when you play it.

Of that lot I enjoyed God of War the most actually. Not too long, awesome gameplay and great story. I’m the type that mainly focuses on the main quests and story - grindy side quests make me bored quickly.
