Hi Tod,
Sounds like youā€™re a muscle car fan like me. 68 Firebirds are my favourite Pontiac and Iā€™m lucky enough to have a ā€˜68 convertible (400 with TH400) that Iā€™ve been restoring over the last 25 (!) years as a Ram Air 2 cloneā€¦ā€¦our Oz exchange rate can be terrible and all parts have to be imported. Iā€™m doing a full rotisserie nut & bolt restoration on it. Itā€™s currently in ainā€™t with the engine in (I built myself). Iā€™ve done most of the work except Paint and most panel. I also have a 75 Trans Am (Stellar Blue 400 4 speed) that I bought in 2013, after a close call with my health. I just wanted to be able to actually drive something!! I live in Oz so we didnā€™t have any of the awesome muscle cars that you guys did (other than some Holden(GM) and Ford stuff). Sounds like your wife and you have owned some amazing stuff. I have two Pontiacs but it just worked out that way. I actually love all brands. If I could only own one car it would be a ā€˜67 Corvette roadster with all the go-fast options in Marina Blue (Same colour as my convertible (Pontiac Tyrol Blue) although not a factory option for 68, but I just love it).
Thanks for your reply Tod.
Cheers,
Dale

Hi again Dale,
Thatā€™s really something that youā€™re able to do so much of your rebuild yourself!!! I grew up with a family that really frowned on any grease or oil getting spilled in our garage & never learned how to do any of that stuff myselfā€¦ I mean simple tune-ups were goodā€¦ plugs, points, condenser etc, but changing my own oil was a severe no-no!!! :grimacing: My wife had a similar experience so we basically have to pay to get anything doneā€¦ trust me, things arenā€™t very cheap here either! The vintage parts market is very much a ā€œLetā€™s take advantage of these SUCKERS!!!ā€ kind of thing!

Good to hear that your ā€œclose callā€ came out okā€¦ & that you are enjoying your life-long restoration project! It would be nice to see some pics of your cars!!! (I know this is a guitar forum but we do have other interests outside of the guitar world!!!)

Hi Tod, Yes, youā€™re so right about the classic car parts sellers. They know they have a captive market and make the most of it. I grew up in a family where my brothers and I worked on cars but had a place up the back of the house block where oil on the ground wasnā€™t a big deal but we still tried to avoid it given we spent a lot of our time laying on the ground under a car. :slightly_smiling_face: I used to have a whole website of my resto project but took it down some time ago. Iā€™ll see what I can do about posting some pics somewhere and put a link up for you so as not to clutter this forum. Cheers, Dale.

Iā€™ve no idea. She can play though. There is some really cool fretless bass she is playing on one of her videos.

cjipperā€¦
I was my momā€™s ā€œLittle Chipperā€ when she found out I was going to be making an appearance. When I was in grade school I found out that the middle name Dale combined with my given name Chip was proof that my mom was ā€œa little squirrelly.ā€ Grade school kids can be meanā€¦

Now that I am no longer in grade school, Chip Dale is kind of cool. I have met a couple people who are nicknamed Chip, but it turns heads at TSA and Customs when they see my passport!

When I started writing, I didnā€™t want to be immediately recognizable, but wanted my friends to be able to read my stuff if they cared to. So I adopted the appellation Cjip Dale instead of my more proper C.D.Smith. Worked at the time. The diminutive was easy as a secondary screen name. My first was adopted in college when I discovered DARPAnetā€¦ GypsyDawg is what I use for most tech or gaming platforms, starting with the old text based systems back in the day.

TLDNR: Diminutive of my given name with a tiny change for anonymity.

I like your username!
As far as a given name goesā€¦ think about what it would be if your Mom had picked Nathan as your middle nameā€¦

Youā€™d be Chip N. Dale!!! :joy:

I can make fun of that because I was named after the fox Tod in Disneyā€™s The Fox and the Hound!!! I guess on the bright side, she could have named me after the dogā€¦ Iā€™d be Copper!!!

I stole the basis for my username from my brother in-law. He is a brilliant entrepreneur who couldnā€™t cook to save his life. Years ago he joked about starting a tv show called ā€˜The Clueless Chefā€™, where he would botch recipes for entertainment. When I got the idea to learn how to build acoustic guitars and documenting the process on YouTube I remembered his idea and named the channel The Clueless Luthier. Shortly after that, the new forum was created and I was jealous of some of the cool names other members had, so I decided to use it here.

Hey Mark!

Thatā€™s a great backstory! Iā€™m sure you probably were pretty clueless with your first build, but youā€™re building something pretty special & thatā€™s awesome!
Thank you (and your wife) for contributing so much to this Community!!!

Okā€¦ this was a long read. Finally got through it. Glad the forum is good about keeping track of your last read spot in a thread because I definitely didnā€™t read through it all in one sitting.

I came up with my nickname when I was in my early/mid 20s. I was starting to really get into computer programming and felt a bit like I could do anything. Whenever I learned to do something new, I felt like a god.

At that time, I usually used Greywolf as my handle for everything. However, I started playing a MUD with a friend and the MUD would not allow any common words for a character name. Technically, you werenā€™t supposed to use words from a foreign language either, but it didnā€™t seem to stop me from using Latin. I decided on Deiussum, which is basically the Latin phrase Deus sum; I am God. I threw the i in there to change it up a bit.

Iā€™ve used that name for just about everything ever since. Itā€™s never been taken in any game Iā€™ve played. It also has a bit of irony to it because I generally consider myself to be pretty modest, and the name is anything but modest.

So far as my Denverized name, that would be Lee Fargo.

Last year I bought a vehicle that was grey with black trim, so my old Greywolf name now lives on in the form of personalized plates; GREYWLF.

Hey Dan!

Interesting story! Iā€™m not familiar with the acronym MUDā€¦ itā€™s about as clear as mud to me!!!

Funny about your license platesā€¦ my across the street neighbor has a grey pickup truck with the same plates. The thing about himā€¦ he used to have 2 wolves (actual timber wolves) as petsā€¦ they were pretty scary critters to have in the neighborhood with young kids aroundā€¦ but they loved the guy. They both died about 10 years ago, it was sad because the male passed & the female just stopped eating or drinking & went just a couple of weeks later. After that, the guy had his name legally changed to Wolf & has wolf references all over the placeā€¦ all his vehicles, his furniture, most of his clothes etc. are greyā€¦ wolf statues in the yardā€¦ I swear I hear howling sometimes & Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s himā€¦ :grimacing:

Thanks for sharing your story!!!

Thanks Tod!

MUD is short for Multi-User Dungeon. They are usually text-based games that you connect to with a simple MUD or Telnet client.

Thatā€™s sad to hear about the passing of your neighborā€™s wolves, though I can also understand the concerns of the rest of the neighborhood. Iā€™ve always loved canines of all sort. Sounds like your neighbor probably did too. I know there are pet owners out there that mostly see wolf breeds or ā€œbullyā€ breeds as some sort of status symbol and donā€™t really know how to care for them properly.

Ahhhā€¦ that was my guessā€¦ I was a rather obsessed Dungeons & Dragons fanatic as a teen when it was all just in your mind & on paper with actual multisided dice!

He took really good care of them & really loved them bothā€¦ we arenā€™t sure where he got them, he doesnā€™t say & there was something mysterious about the whole thing. It was pretty spine chilling to hear them howl late at night, though. Something deep in our human genes I guess that screams ā€œRUN!ā€ when you hear wolves sounding like theyā€™re on the hunt!
