Come All You Fair and Tender Maidens

My arrangement of the traditional Appalachian song

Beautifully played and sung Ruaridh. Very pleasant to listen to…:sunglasses:

Very nicely arranged Ruaridh. . .some versions are enormously boring. . .but this was enchanting. Playing and singing are up to their usual standard as well. Lovely piece of Americana. . .

Speaking of Americana. . are you playing a Collings guitar, there by any chance? It has a wonderful tone. . .

Nice to see you posting again. . . I’ve been away from the community for a few months. . .

Cheers for that!!

Thanks Eddie, appreciate it🙏
It’s good to be back in the red light!

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the comment,
It’s a Collings OM that they made custom for the 2022 NAMM show. German spruce on the top and African ebony back and sides. It’s crazily responsive and active…. However…
I’m trying various different strings on it atm to find the best sound, and struggling a bit tbh with premium brands that lose their bass response way too quickly.
May have to go back to the coated…

Cheers

Beautiful Ruaridh.
A lovely arrangement and wonderful performance.
Mrs C is harmonising along as we listen.
I know the melody more in the song Silver Dagger.
I think the two have overlaps.

Thanks so much Richard,
Silver Dagger is pretty much the same tune, I liked it from hearing it sung at the Elm Tree sessions way back when. That song has such a fantastic opening line…
It’s one of those tunes that the first time of hearing , you’re convinced you’ve always known it

Hi Ruaridh,
What a way to start my morning :sunglasses:  :sunglasses:

Thanks ,Rogier and wife

Quick question - I’ve been trying to add the user name tag to my post but can’t figure out how to do it. Is that something I can do , or is it still for the moderators to sort out?

I’d been listening to a Freddie King playlist so listening to you was quite a switch! But a very pleasant one. That was a super performance in every way. Thanks for this.
It’s a very familiar melody but I don’t know how I know it.

It is still a moderator only tool.
I have just done it.

Thanks Rogier,
Hope I didn’t put you off your breakfast:woozy_face::joy:

Thanks @Willsie :+1: I’ve been listening to Freddy King while driving - I got various of his albums, including an instrumental, and one with Lula Reed vv cheaply off Music Magpie. Worth checking out

@Avalon426 Thanks Jasmine, it’s a song I’ve known for a long time , but never learned until recently

Thanks @sairfingers The tune is one of those that’s soaked into the general consciousness , and as Richard pointed out , there’s more than one song uses it

Thanks @TheCluelessLuthier - see you next Saturday at the OM👍
Glad you enjoyed it @sticktothemuse and @wiredforsound

Beautifully played and sung Ruaridh. Like the others have said it’s a tune I’m sure I’ve heard before. Your instrumental part was super.

I’ve been listening to a Freddie King instrumental album ‘Let’s Hide Away and Dance Away’ which I really like, is it the same one or does he also have another instrumental album?

The instrumental is Hide Away and Dance Away. them there’s these two other albums, plus an Albert King album all in the same package
Great value!
