Yesterday a weird Dutchman challenged a couple of gloomy Scandinavians to cover this silly song.
Quote: âI thought rightâŠwell then, Brian can just go crazy on the lyrics and with this cheerful tune just turn it into a jet-black gloomy death tuneâŠâ
Your wish is my command
Welcome to this game of cards. I call it life
My daddy was a dealer, like his pretty wife
They shuffled all their chromosomes in pairs of 23
I got her looks, his brains- I play them carefully
Environmental influences all around,
Kings and queens and jokers galore
The deck is stacked with crap; I end up underground.
Oh, lady luck, you can be a heartless whore.
Oh my God, how did I even think that I could do differently? Am I dead or alive, just like that cat? Schrödinger set me free!
Dividing time by the sun and moon and hands
I can only tell the future from the past.
Einstein declared God donât throw no dice
No time, no space behaves randomly
No free will at all- Hey, man I got no choice.
I believe in laws of physicality
Oh my God, how did I even think that I could do differently? Am I dead or alive, just like that cat? Schrödinger set me free!
You played/put that together quickly âŠnice job so fast, great text âŠand my dear help, modesty is a Bit ⊠how nice that that doesnât bother you , although of course we shouldnât always milk the text at all to deep âŠloved it,and I had a great laugh
(ps; like more people Iâve always seen schrodingerâs cat as just a limitation of the observers)
@roger_holland I forgive you for distracting me and making me indulge in my old bad habits:
Ah, the ditched pick and simple strumming; recording the song as youâre still changing the lyricsâŠ
Actually, I should thank you. It was with great misgiving that I watched his lesson on this and did learn a number of things. Thereâs a nice little bass walk on G in the bridge. I learned to play a G7 chord, and had a couple of goes with that alternating bass picking with hammer-ons while strumming (though decided not to put in the weeks/monthsâ work to be able to play it)
@lBro Thanks for taking the click-bait and giving it a whirl
You guys did the same to Lennon when he made comparisons to the great and the good
All in the name of good fun
@Darrel Thank you kindly, good Sir!
This one is definitely a matter of taste
Brian at his best, taking a song, twisting it and still coming up with something great. Where others struggle with lyrics and showmanship you just launch right in.
Caught this on the tubez when you published it. Loved it.
Much appreciated my friend
Iâm glad to get a flurry of activity out of the system, as Iâm heading off to Italy on hols next weekend.
More lack of modesty than ability, but thatâs fine if youâre aware of it
Of course I took the bait, Brain, and was rewarded with a good laugh. Always amazed at your ability to come up with lyrics at the drop of a hat and admire your ability to play and sing.
But even with your personal leanings in lyrics, the chords are still the chords, so really up against it to make it an overall enjoyable song.
Cheers, David,
I see myself more like cracking observational puns than writing lyrically.
Indeed, itâs a fun exercise though. I was reminded of a BBC radio show where they have a section that goes: âSing The Ace of Spades to the tune of My Favourite Thingsâ
Where exactly ? and donât forget to post a photo every now and then if there is time and inclination, of course, Silvia would love that
Speak you later
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of Justinâs Ob La Di lesson Brian. Yes itâs a bit of a silly song but itâs always been a favourite of mine and a guaranteed sing along number. (as is Yellow Submarine ).
Ah Brian. Back to your old habits. Pick discarded and all Justinâs ideas about bass runs and hammer-ons cast aside. At least youâve learnt G7.
I did enjoy your different lyrics though. Very clever.
As usual, a fun performance from yourself.
Another thing I admire is your ability to understand what @roger_holland is talking about! I hope you enjoy your Italian holiday. Sounds like Roger is going to gatecrash it!
Weâre like chalk and cheese, man. Weâll have all the genres covered between us
This was just a blip. Iâm still trying to learn
Regarding @roger_holland, Iâve probably spent enough time âon the continentâ to understand a lot of their processes
@Notter and ainât that the best reason to share any music Thanks.
Me too, love it!
Itâs a difficult style of song to write; the third person storytelling pop song. Ray Davies from the Kinks is another one who was very good at it.
