Hi from Erion in Cardiff, UK

Hi. I am Erion (air-ree-on). I live in South Wales (UK), just outside Cardiff. When I was 10, I went to music school for 4 years, where I learnt to play the oboe and some basic piano. I’ve loved music eversince and I’ve often asked myself what would have happened if I had continued the music path. I’ve been working in IT for the last 20 years and I’m now a cybersecurity consultant.

I taught myself how to play guitar when I was a teenager, and played occasionally for fun, just strumming along songs I liked.
2 years ago I picked up the electric guitar and decided I was going to learn to play it properly. I started with an old Ibanez Gio that my wife had gifted me a long time ago, and then moved to a Fender Player Strat. Since then, I’ve been playing guitar almost every single day for about 1hr, and I’m happy with the progress. I’ve added a Hagstrom Viking (ES-335 style guitar) to my collection this year.

I’ve been following @JustinGuitar for over 1 year now, and I’ve benefited massively from the free material on the website. I’ve completed the courses from grade 1 to 4, and I’m half way through the music theory one. My goal is to get very good at playing the guitar, and maybe even join a band at some point.

I’ve grown very fond of the Blues, which led me to enrol to BLIM 3. I would like to be confident in improvisation, but I’m also aware that I need to improve my technique. My favourite Blues artists are many, but Eric Clapton and Roy Buchanan lead the list.

Hi Erion ,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Yes, a big mistake for many, which applies to 70 to 80% of the people here that I read ,A family and work are bad for your guitar career.

just start looking now if this is your ambition realy don`t wait …:grinning_face_with_big_eyes:, I have seen you play ,not a professional band right now , but if there is a nice group for your level or a bit up that is still oke (and at any level we can form bands ) that you can form and play with and , then growth will really start fast… :collision::smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Greetings,Rogier

@roger_holland
Thanks Rogier.
As you said. Life with a family and a full time job is busy as it is. I haven’t actively looked for bands, but maybe later on when I feel more confident I might.

Welcome to the Community, Erion
Age aside, we have much in common
My first electric was an Ibanez Gio a friend gifted me.
The first electric I bought was a Hagström Viking (here’s a sample), and I still miss it, although it had to go, as the body was too big to play comfortably in my default posture- lying down on the couch watching TV
I never thought I’d play in a live band until my Danish cousin convinced me give it a go this summer.
What a blast! :open_mouth:
I’m afraid we have different musical palates (palettes?).
I’m not partial to blue. (I have indulged… but didn’t inhale )
I look forward to meeting you at the next OM, which I believe you’ve signed up for.
Good on you!
