Open Mic 27 : Recording & After-Show Chat

Another Open Mic and another successful event.
We hosted at an altered time to accommodate folk from different time zones and we had two debutantes in the form of @CD02 and @RonG.

That is fast this post…
David is still playing…09:56 now :joy:

But it is nice to be here so early in the morning, it gives a completely different dynamic…
…it’s all very nice and I’ll continue watching the video

Great initiative, Richard; hopefully more traction next time around. A special congratulations to the debut performers.
Thank you for organising the show … :sunglasses: :+1:

It was so good! And at such a reasonable hour for once… XD

Two weeks of exercises and my shoulder is already feeling loads better, so I will try and be a performer in the next one (that is at a time that isn’t going to disturb the neighbourhood peace if I start playing guitar)… I’d better learn some songs properly beforehand though, hey…

So…That was all very entertaining, but it’s was not really apity that there were sometimes some sound problems,
but it didn’t bother me much, it makes it all nice and cozy… only I couldn’t listen to Ron’s voice, which was bad distorted (but that’s due to his own equipment I think, but playing guitar was beyond normal :sunglasses:)…

But what a start of the day eating and drinking breakfast with a concert  :sunglasses:… after a hazy night so no cam on here

Greetings all and nice Constance

if you can do this :sunglasses:

Thanks everyone, that was a lot of fun and really inspiring! looking forward to getting into performance.

It is great fun, Norhan, and a good next step once you’ve posted a few AVOYP recordings.

Sorry to hear my voice was distorted.
No one mentioned it at my sound check or after my performance. :slightly_frowning_face:

I didn’t hear your SoundCheck Ron, and did turn my sound down a little for your performance, so it was a little hotter than some of the others. But also sometimes the issues are not simply at source. Zoom plus internet plus the way one is listening can all potentially cause some trouble.

Well done everyone!

I’ve just had a quick scan through the recording before editing it.

@RonG I wouldn’t say your voice is distorted, your volume is great, and I can hear you used the harmonies in your pedal. There are some parts where there is volume clipping at your louder singing bits but overall I think it’s fine.

There are a few volume issues throughout this one, I think I’ll get it uploaded later tomorrow after editing.

Careful with that axe, Eugene…

I’ll only cut off bits you don’t need. Like maybe a stray eyebrow or one of your toes. :smiling_imp:

Ron @RonG
Sounded ok to me listening on my iPad and ear buds. As David says a lot ether between you and what a person hears on their gear.
Great debut, I never thought I would hear whiter shade of pale played on a guitar.

Thank you Mat.
Yes it is a challenge to do Whiter Shade but worth the effort.

Craig @CD02
Really enjoyed your debut sounded great.
You see the technology was not an issue.

Thank you.

Thank you David.

I had to leave early unfortunately, but the acts I saw were great. Fab debut @CD02 Craig - really relaxed and well played.
I’ll catch up with the rest of the set when the recording is out.

I think it only happened when your vocal hit its dynamic peak in chorus with the harmony voices added.

Perhaps a useful reminder for everyone in sound check to test their full dynamic range from softest to loudest.

Absolutely, definitely worth the effort, such an iconic song for those of us in the vintage :ok_hand:
